WWE News: Seth Rollins Blamed For Bad TV Ratings, Vince McMahon And Triple H Working On Big Storyline

WWE has had low television ratings the last number of weeks. While the ratings have gone up a bit here and there, the overall show has not done as well. WWE usually does have an issue during the fall, as it has to compete against the major Monday shows that hit on this day, as well as Monday Night Football, the cable ratings king. This has been a growing problem for years however. WWE has had low ratings in the fall, but they have never been this low on a regular basis. For holidays or major games in the NFL, ratings have slipped. However, the consistency of the low ratings shows that WWE is not connecting to it’s audience.

WWE has claimed for years that they want to give the people what they want. Despite this, the company has routinely given us the opposite. Off and on, fans would get their wish. WWE put Daniel Bryan in the WrestleMania main event in 2014 as one example and another was when WWE gave Seth Rollins the WWE World Heavyweight Title over Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 31 just a few months ago.

Sadly the overall show has been a downer, and WWE counters it not by correcting stories or trying to give us more compelling content. Rather, they counter by adding major names to the line-up like Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, Ric Flair, and more. While no one will discredit the stardom of all men mentioned, they are by no means going to correct ratings for the entire WWE, rather they are only going to correct them for a week or two if that.

Ambrose Vince

According to Daily Wrestling News, internally it seems Seth Rollins is getting the blame for the low ratings. Many of his supporters claim he is simply overexposed, similar to what happened with John Cena years ago. This turned people off on Cena early, and even though he was good for the company, fans got tired of seeing him all the time and never really seeing others.

Many see the push of Rollins as the reason for the decline. However, this cannot be the case as ratings were okay from WrestleMania 31 up until the end of the summer. The main issue has been that content has slowly gotten worse. Rollins is only a small part of that and he does not write the show. Creative does. Vince McMahon and Triple H are standing behind Rollins and believe he is a major star for them for the next decade. There are some that feel that his weekly promos and constant camera time are the main cause of the problems. This of course goes back to overexposure.

Vince McMahon and Triple H are reportedly expected to make some major moves and changes soon. Ratings are a hot topic within WWE and the company is not happy about the drop. The idea is that WWE is attempting to do a “blockbuster angle” to get fans back in. It is uncertain what the angle will be just yet, however we very well could see it near or after WWE Hell in a Cell later this month.

Vince Bryan

While unconfirmed, there are reports claiming that Dean Ambrose is somehow going to be put into the plans for this major angle. Fans have asked and begged at times to see more of him. The same has been asked of Sasha Banks. There is a big reason why WWE put Sasha and Bayley in a big match at WWE NXT and why Sasha is planned for the WWE Diva’s Title soon. Fans are getting heard now more than ever before. Fans chanting “we want Sasha” often has caused WWE to pay attention. The same can be said for the Ambrose support.

This is also why people like Daniel Bryan might be back, despite the hesitation by WWE. Since he has a history of concussions in his past, the recent one was too big of an issue to overlook. While Bryan has been cleared by an outside neurologist who is well known in the sports field. He has not yet been cleared by WWE to return. He reportedly had a meeting with Vince McMahon and Triple H recently, and what was said in the meeting is not yet known to the public. However, WWE would most likely not release Bryan before they attempted to see what he could do in one more comeback attempt. This is especially true at a time when ratings are dipping and Bryan could be a helpful addition to stop the decline.

WWE claims that if people don’t watch the product, that is when they know they are doing wrong. With that being said, people aren’t watching as much anymore. That means WWE is obviously in the wrong by their own standards. Unless they change this with not past, but current talent and add better creative angles… ratings will only continue to decline. In a time when WWE is weakest the most to other shows beating them, now might be the time to try something crazy or even desperate when there is nothing else to lose.
