Amar’e Stoudemire Gets Engaged to Alexis Welch in Paris
New York Knicks star Amar’e Stoudemire is officially engaged to be married.
According to US Weekly, Stoudemire proposed to his long-time girlfriend — and mother of his three kids — Alexis Welch while on a weekend getaway in Paris.
The six-time NBA All-Star described the joyous occasion — which took place overlooking the Eiffel Tower lights outside of the couple’s penthouse at Le Meurice Hotel Belle Etoile Royal Suite at 11pm local time — to People magazine:
“I have been planning my proposal for a while and overlooking the entire Paris skyline seemed like a perfect place. I am so happy she said ‘yes,’ and now we can continue to build our life together as husband and wife.”
Welch, who now is the proud owner of a 8.5-carat custom-designed engagement ring, gushed to the NY Post’s Page Six:
“Having Amar’e ask me to marry him while overlooking the Paris skyline seemed like some sort of romantic fantasy. Amar’e put so much care and thought into every detail to make it special for us. We are truly blessed!”
The NY Post writes that Amar’e and Alexis met in 2002, after Stoudemire was drafted by the Phoenix Suns, and have three children — Amar’e Jr., 5, Ar’e, 6 ( almost 7) and Assata, 4.
According to Stoudemire’s rep, the couple plans to wed sometime in 2013.
