Pepsi Releasing Limited Edition Pepsi Perfect Bottle From ‘Back To The Future Part II’
Pepsi is no dummy, and they’re proving it by selling something that was officially revealed 26 years ago, and they know it’s going to be insanely successful. Their new promotion for Pepsi Perfect won’t last long and not many of them will be sold, but the iconic bottle bought by Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) in Back to the Future Part II can soon be yours.
According to 9 News, fans know that the date of October 21, 2015, is extremely significant in the world of the Back to the Future franchise. It was the date that Marty, Doc Brown, and Jennifer traveled to the future to have something “done about their kids.”
Upon arriving in the future, Doc (Christopher Lloyd) gives Marty a $50 and tells him to go around the corner to the Cafe 80s and order a Pepsi. Marty complies and buys one of the most awesome looking drinks ever in Pepsi Perfect.
Now, there will be 6,500 fans that can own this limited edition bottle of Pepsi Perfect, as it will go on sale on October 21, 2015. It will be available for $20.15, which is pricey for a Pepsi but not nearly as much as the Cafe 80s was charging for them.
PepsiCo’s senior director of marketing, Lou Arbetter, knows that fans love the scene in Back to the Future Part II. He also knows that owning a piece of history is even better.
“Fans have always been a little crazy about it, and so we wanted to take advantage of the fact that Marty travelled to the future, to this month, and wanted to actually come out with the product.”
Gizmodo has revealed that there is no information out yet on where to buy the limited edition Pepsi Perfect bottles, but everyone should know soon. Those at New York Comic Con later this week will get first dibs, though, and Pepsi will distribute or sell the first 1,500 bottles to anyone there dressed like Marty McFly.
So, for all those not at New York Comic Con this week, that leaves a mere 5,000 bottles of Pepsi Perfect for the rest of the world to buy.
For those wondering, and if you’re crazy enough to do so, the Pepsi Perfect won’t taste any differently. No, it’s not a new drink, just a limited edition bottle, so it won’t taste like anything more than an actual Pepsi.
Pepsi is doing a great job of promoting the limited edition drink from Back to the Future Part II, though. An ad for the drink has been released by PepsiCo, and it’s got hoverboards and a dancing robot, to boot.
With the official date in the move approaching, many are comparing real life to how the future was portrayed back in 1989 (1985 in the film). There are no flying cars, and we aren’t yet on Jaws 19, but Pepsi Perfect is about to become an actual thing that exists.
Arbetter wants Pepsi fans and fans of the Back to the Future trilogy to have fun and enjoy life. Even if something won’t be around forever and it’s not exactly “the future,” having fun in life and experiencing what might have been is kind of awesome.
“We’re fans of this popular trilogy, and just generally, if you work at Pepsi you’re fans of pop culture. The brand has made its mark in pop culture frankly since Michael Jackson moonwalked. We’ve been dancing in and around pop culture for a while. So we look at this as another opportunity to have a little bit of fun.”
In less than three weeks, the iconic bottle of Pepsi Perfect from Back to the Future Part II will be released, and it will surely be a collector’s item. For those lucky enough to grab one, you’ll be seen as an 80s king. For those not lucky enough to get one, scouring eBay is going to become really expensive.
