‘Beverly Hills 90210’: Lifetime’s ‘Unauthorized’ True-Story Movie Reveals Sex, Cat Fights, And Other Scandals
Beverly Hills 90210 and Tori Spelling fans are in for a special treat as Lifetime releases their new movie: The Unauthorized Beverly Hills 90210 Story. The Unauthorized Beverly Hills 90210 movie will chronicle the behind the scenes true-story of what set life was like for the 1990’s most popular cast. Originally titled the Class of Beverly Hills but later changed to Beverly Hills 90210, the hit television series made its debut on the Fox channel in October 1990. Now, 25 years later their story will be reintroduced to young audiences today who may not remember the hype surrounding the show. In Lifetime’s Unauthorized Beverly Hills 90210, which is directed by Vanessa Parise and written by Jeffrey Roda, stars Abby Ross and Tori Spelling, Alyssa Lynch as Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Michele Goyns as Gabrielle Carteris, Ross Linton as Brian Austin Green, and David Lennon as Ian Ziering, according to The Internet Movie Database (IMDB).
In the sneak peak trailer for The Unauthorized Beverly Hills 90210, we see lots of kissing and some knock-down drag out fights between the girls, leaving many people wondering if Lifetime’s portrayal is 100 percent true. According to producers and the actors playing them, there was a lot of competition between several of the girls, causing some of them to take it to the parking lot, where fist fights would break out. Between the guys, it seemed that there was more of a friendship among them. Some of the guys did have it out with some of the producers who were squeamish about the sexual energy that was being portrayed during filming. It turns out that there may have been some real-life hook ups between some cast members. Just days ago, US Magazine reported that Tori Spelling admitted to having sex with two cast members of the show during an episode of Celebrity Lie Detector—one of the boys was Brian Austin Green. When pressed further, Spelling wouldn’t say the name of the other person. But those who were cast on the show all know the secret. In fact, the secret regarding Spelling had been rumored for years.
But the drama, the kissing, and the real-life situations are what attracted America’s teens to the show. When it aired for the first time, it really resonated with young people. Back then, it was almost like a reality show because the topics and problems that the Beverly Hills 90210 kids were going through mirrored the same issues that all young people could relate to, despite the zip code and money difference. The air of richness that was central to the show allowed for teens and young adults to enjoy the fantasy of being wealthy.
The real 1990s Beverly Hills High School teens all used cell phones and were said to be driving expensive vehicles to school. About the show’s popularity, Beverly Hills 90210 supervising producer Darren Star had this to say, according to The Deseret News.
“I don’t think anyone expected this much success.() I think it’s tapped into a reality about (teenagers’) lives. It’s not mindless entertainment. They believe it’s real.() I mean, they know it’s not.() but they connect to it in a way that they don’t to other shows.”
The original cast of Beverly Hills 90210 included, Jason Priestley as Brandon Walsh, Shannen Doherty as Brenda Walsh, Jennie Garth as Kelly Marlene Taylor, Ian Ziering as Steve Sanders, Gabrielle Carteris as Andrea Zuckerman, Brian Austin Green as David Silver, Douglas Emerson as Scott Scanlon, Tori Spelling as Donna Marie Martin, James Eckhouse as Jim Walsh, Carol Potter as Cindy Walsh, Tiffani Thiessen as Valerie Malone, and Luke Perry as Dylan Michael McKay.
