Neil Patrick Harris Introduces Twins To Oprah [Video]

Neil Patrick Harris and his partner David Burtka welcomed their twins, born via surrogate, to the world in 2010. Today, they introduced the boys to Oprah Winfrey.

The Toronto Sun reports that Harris and Burtka invited Oprah to their estate for an interview about fatherhood for Oprah’s Next Chapter in America, which will air on Sunday. The happy gay couple talked about what it’s been like raising twins, as well as their experiences with a surrogate.

Burtka said that they knew the surrogate but that they didn’t know the egg donor. Both Burtka and Harris donated sperm, and by a “miracle of modern medicine,” they are now the proud fathers of two boys.

Burtka said:

“We knew the surrogate, we didn’t know the egg donor, but we saw a video of her and read extensive history on (her) medical (history)…. Two eggs, two embryos, one of mine, one of his – and two took….. We really had thought it through financially, emotionally, relationship-wise. We didn’t just accidentally get pregnant. These kids come into our world with nothing but love.”

Harris added:

“We lucked out. They’re super healthy and happy.”

Burtka and Harris said that the boys, now 19-months old, are starting to develop their own personalities. Gideon is apparently “the shy one” and both boys love the water.

Harris also talked to Oprah about his sexuality and when he realized he was gay. For Harris, it happened early in life.

“Probably six, seven,” Harris said. “Young.”

Harris said that he was initially confused by his homosexual feelings and even tried to date girls with his heterosexual friends during his teenage years.

Harris said: “Good times. I did feel like it wasn’t clicking like it was supposed to, and kept wondering, was it me?”

The full interview with Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka will air this Sunday on the OWN Network on the June 3rd at 9 ET on OWN.
