Floyd Mayweather Jr. Heads To Jail Today


Floyd Mayweather Jr. may be the biggest winning prizefighter of all time but on Friday afternoon he is scheduled to turn himself over to Las Vegas authorities at which time he will vacate his five-bedroom Las Vegas mansion and spend up to three months in jail.

The five-division champion managed to knock down a longer sentence by agreeing to please guilty to reduced domestic battery charges after he was involved in a hair-pulling, arm-twisting fight In September 2010 that involved the mother of three of his children.

Given his high-profile it is likely that Mayweather, 35, will spend most of his time in a solo cell where he will have just enough room to do sit-ups and push-ups however the Clark County Detention Center will limit the boxers ability to fully train for future fights.

During his first week in prison Mayweather will be segregated from the prisons other 3,200 inmates.

In what might be his biggest upset, he won’t be able to catch the June 9 pay-per-view fight between WBO welterweight rival Manny Pacquioa and Timothy Bradley which is happening right down the block at the MGM Grand Garden arena.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was sentenced on December 22 and was given permission to fight Miguel Cotto on May 5 in Las Vegas before he began serving out his sentence. That fight netted Mayweather a guaranteed $32 million. Coto was paid $8 million for his loss.

During his sentencing the judge said they were most troubled by Mayweather’s threats against ex-girlfriend Josie Harris in the presences of their 10 and 8-year-old boys.

Along with his domestic battery charge Mayweather was handed down two harassment charges.
