Marshawn Lynch Is A Human Highlight Reel On And Off The Field

Marshawn Lynch, known as “Beast Mode” by football fans who enjoy his aggressive and punishing running style, makes a lot of headlines for his exploits both on and off the field. His on-field performance has been exceptional the last several seasons, highlighted by the fact that despite the significant number of carries he has had in recent years, he has not missed a game since the 2011 season according to the Oregon Live. That streak could be in jeopardy this weekend as Lynch is reportedly battling a hamstring injury that may keep him on the sidelines.

Marshawn Lynch’s absence from the football field would make the NFL a little bit less exciting this weekend, as he is arguably as entertaining of a player as there is in today’s game. Marshawn Lynch’s personality off the field is also larger than life, despite the highly publicized “I’m just here so I won’t get fined” incidents leading up to last year’s Super Bowl.

Below are five examples of why Marshawn Lynch might be the most fun player to follow in professional sports.

5. Ghost Ridin’ The Equipment Cart

Following a thrilling 31 to 24 overtime victory over the Washington Huskies, Marshawn Lynch, who had played the college football game with two sprained ankles and rumbled in for a 22-yard game-winning touchdown for his California Golden Bears just moments earlier, gifted the world with this hilarious moment. Rather than simply jumping up and down with his teammates in a more traditional celebration, he commandeered an unattended equipment cart and proceeded to take a wild ride around the Memorial Stadium field.

4. Play Time With Kenny Mayne

As a rookie player in the NFL for the Buffalo Bills, Marshawn Lynch made this hilarious video with Kenny Mayne of ESPN, in which he gave a firsthand account to the reporter of the many nightlife and entertainment attractions that the city of Buffalo has to offer. Dave & Busters and Applebee’s have never looked like so much fun.

3. No Need To Throw It Man

In an cameo appearance on the FX’s sitcom, The League, Marshawn Lynch has a little fun with the Seahawks coaching staff, mocking their decision to call a pass play from the 1-yard line during the waning moments of last year’s Super Bowl. That decision, of course, was derided after quarterback Russell Wilson threw an interception that effectively ended the game. In Marshawn’s comedic appearance on the TV show, he and the character “Taco” debate throwing a beer over to one of their friends rather than running it over as throwing it ends up in disaster.

2. Beast Quake 2.0

On December 21, 2014, Marshawn Lynch ripped off the longest touchdown run of his career, shaking off and flattening would be tacklers throughout a 79-yard trip down the field. Marshawn’s run was an exclamation point on a 113-yard, 2 touchdown rushing performance that led the Seahawks to a 35-6 romp over their divisional rivals. The Marshawn Lynch run was dubbed “Beast Quake 2.0” as it followed up a previous run by Lynch that ESPN has referred to as “one of the greatest plays in NFL playoff history.”

1. Seattle’s 2011 Beast Quake

During a playoff game on January 8, 2011, Marshawn Lynch literally made the earth shake in Seattle. During a “stunning 67-yard touchdown run that clinched a 41-36 playoff victory” as described by ABC News, the crowd noise became so loud that a seismometer device located a block away from the stadium detected vibrations similar to those seen during a small earthquake or tremor. According to the University of Washington, the legendary run set off a chain of events that led to the installation of ” two strong-motion earthquake sensors inside the stadium” that will help scientists better understand naturally-caused earthquakes, as opposed to those simply triggered by Marshawn Lynch.
