NFL Rumors: Should The 49ers Move On From Colin Kaepernick?
There is simply no way around it, Colin Kaepernick had a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day on Sunday. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback had just nine completions for 67 yards. Oh and Kaepernick also threw four interceptions, two of which the Arizona Cardinals returned for touchdowns. On the season Colin has as many Interceptions returned for touchdowns as he has passing touchdowns.
Even though Kaepernick struggled through the worst game of his career, the 49ers head coach said pulling Kaepernick never entered his mind. ESPN is reporting that Colin took full responsibility for the loss on Sunday.
“I nullified all the efforts of every other player on that field today…today was 100 percent my fault.”
The 49ers got their heads handed to them as the Cardinals beat them 47-7. Kaepernick wasn’t alone in his lousiness as the defense allowed Chris Johnson to rush for 110 yards and two scores and Carson Palmer threw for 311 yards and two scores as well. Veteran wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald built on his terrific week 2 performance and hauled in both of the touchdowns from Palmer.
The loss dropped the 49ers to 1-2 on the year and they are already two games behind the front-running Cardinals, who remain undefeated on the year at 3-0.
It wasn’t that long ago that Kaepernick was the newest NFL golden boy and guys such as ESPN football analyst Ron Jaworski were singing his praises. Just over two years ago, Jaworski uttered these famous words.
“I truly believe Colin Kaepernick could be one of the greatest quarterbacks ever. I love his skill set. I think the sky’s the limit.”
It seems that Colin has hit his ceiling in San Francisco. The last two seasons he has taken a combined 91 sacks and that may be taking a toll on him. Plus he may have lost the best thing he had going for him: the coaching of Jim Harbaugh. Now that Harbaugh was let go, the 49ers are likely headed for a down period and Kaepernick will likely suffer through more days like today, especially when he doesn’t seem to be able to complete passes downfield.
The 49ers will not move on from Colin Kaepernick because they are paying him over $10 million this season and the alternative is Blaine Gabbert, a guy who has one more interception in his career than he has touchdown passes. It will be a long season for 49ers fans and they can blame their front office for the team being in this situation.
