Emmys Stuff-Up: Viewers Furious As Endings Of Popular Shows ‘Boardwalk Empire’, ‘Mad Men’, ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Spoiled In Video Montage
Emmys. That one word generally has people excited because it’s the one time each year they get to find out how their favorite shows fared over the course of the previous year. Unfortunately, the folks at the 67th Emmy Awards messed up and angered thousands of people in the process. How? By showing a video montage of the series finales of all the most popular television shows that were ending that year.
The montage was intended to pay tribute to the shows, and it did do them justice, but it was full of spoilers from the finales of all the shows it portrayed. These spoilers showed everything, including the deaths of beloved characters. Just imaging seeing your favorite character die on a series finale you haven’t even watched yet!
Many of the angered fans took to the internet to express their feelings, such as this tweet from comedian Josh Denny.
Oh, so that’s how Sons of Anarchy ends? Spoiler alert much, #Emmys?

However, there were also a number of people who felt that the montage of series finales was no big deal. Fox News reported that these particular shows ended last spring and if you hadn’t watched by now, then you weren’t going to.
“To everyone complaining about spoilers: most of those shows ended in the spring. If you haven’t watched you’re not going to.”
Perhaps Fox News did have a point about the shows ending a few months ago, but people lead busy lives, and many people like to wait for the DVD to be released for a binge-watching session, rather than following a show on TV week by week. What made so many people angry was that there wasn’t even a spoiler alert given before the video was shown.
Hey #Emmys, can you say #SpoilerAlert before all those final episode clips? Jeez! Thanks for ruining all of those damned series for me.

And, as Daily Mail reported, even the host of the Emmys came back after the commercial break that followed the video montage and made a joke about the spoiler video.
“Welcome back to the Spoiler Awards.”
Inverse reported that the shows people seemed to be the most upset about when seeing the spoilers included Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, and Sons of Anarchy.
Although many brushed it off, the video montage honoring the shows that were ending did spoil a lot of series finales for a lot of people. But, it is a lovely tribute and well worth the watch. You can take a look for yourself below. But, just remember, if you do plan on taking a peak – SPOILER ALERT!
