Ridley Scott Reveals Official Title For ‘Prometheus 2’ And It’s ‘Alien: Paradise Lost’
Many have wondered just how close the Prometheus sequel was going to get to bringing about the world of Alien, and now, Ridley Scott has let the world know it will be very close. Scott revealed the official title of the sequel, and said that it would officially be called Alien: Paradise Lost which at least gives a semi-direct connection between the franchises.
Scott was speaking with HeyUGuys and revealed the official title which is said to come from John Milton’s poem “Paradise Lost.” The poem details the biblical story of the fall of man, the temptation of Adam and Eve by Satan, and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden.
IMDB pointed out that it was just this past week that Ridley Scott said the Prometheus franchise was going to connect with the Alien franchise by the third or fourth film. That leaves many scratching their heads now with the new title that actually includes the word “alien.”
The reason it is seen as a semi-direct connection between the two franchises is because the aliens are still not supposedly showing up in Alien: Paradise Lost. Not anyone can really explain that at this time, but Ridley Scott apparently knows what he is doing.
The title of the film is obviously a direct nod to John Milton’s incredible and epic poem “Paradise Lost” which has long been seen as influential. The opening of the poem alone seems to help understand how it fits in with the franchise.
“Of Mans First Disobedience, and the Fruit
Of that Forbidden Tree, whose mortal taste
Brought Death into the World, and all our woe,
With loss of Eden, till one greater Man
Restore us…”
Neill Blomkamp is currently working on Alien 5 and that’s going to be interesting for the future. Cinema Blend recently reported that Blomkamp is looking to make multiple Alien films which essentially follow the first two films in the franchise and ignore Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection.
There is no real way of knowing if Prometheus and Blomkamp’s Aliens film are going to cross paths in any way at all. It is known that Scott is building up the Prometheus franchise to get where everyone is for the start of Alien which was released in 1979.
Alien: Paradise Lost is now the official title for the Prometheus sequel as Ridley Scott has now revealed, but don’t expect to see them just yet. For those wanting to see the acid-spewing creatures, wait for the third or fourth film in the franchise or Blomkamp’s Alien 5.
