Emma Roberts Wants You To Know Ryan Murphy’s Big ‘American Horror Story’ Secret
Emma Roberts is coming into her own celebrity status and queen bee on Scream Queens, but that doesn’t mean she has completely given up on her first Ryan Murphy project, American Horror Story. In fact, the creator of both series is bringing Emma back for a guest appearance in the fifth season of American Horror Story.
It has been reported earlier that Roberts would be performing scenes with former boyfriend, Evan Peters, though little else has been revealed about the Scream Queens star’s cameo on American Horror Story. At least nothing else has been known to the public, but, apparently, Emma knows much more than she has revealed, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“I want to tell you so bad, because we went to dinner the other night, and he told me his idea,” says Roberts. “And it’s just everything you could dream of and more. Everything you could nightmare about and more. Granted, things over there are always changing, but I definitely want to go back to it. If it still stands, what Ryan told me, everyone’s in for a great shock.”
Meanwhile, Scream Queens was a big hit for some and not so much for others, but there’s no denying that Roberts shined as Chanel Oberlin. Emma’s portrayal of the lead Chanel exaggerates much of the negativity plaguing current social interactions and sources of discord between people of diverse social, racial, and economic backgrounds. It may be that portrayal, as though turning the mirror back on ourselves, that makes some would be fans so uncomfortable enough to shy away from Chanel and from Scream Queens in general.
If that is the case, it can only compliment Emma Roberts that much more for her ability to so accurately embody everything about ourselves that we would rather not face and use it to shine as the talented actress she has become. Still, Chanel did show a moment, a brief moment of humanity during a chat with Grace Gardner (Skyler Samuels).
“Chanel, why are you so awful to everyone,” asks Grace.
“My boyfriend compulsively cheats on me, all of my friends work for me, my parents didn’t even call me on my birthday, because they were too busy hosting a fundraiser for Jeb Bush,” retorts Roberts’ character.
“Don’t you see that all that’s happened isn’t a crisis. It’s an opportunity for you and for Kappa to really change. Think about how great it would be to have a real sisterhood, one that will always remember your birthday.”
For a moment, there seems to be a warm heart beneath Chanel’s tough, self-absorbed exterior. She even blesses Grace with a hope-inspiring, tender smile, but, as quickly as that compassionate human soul emerges, it’s once again gone and replaced by the cold as ice Chanel #1.
“Yeah, no. I tried, See, I really tried, but all of this flowery, peace on Earth crap, it makes me want to puke,” responds Emma, perfectly channeling her American Horror Story: Coven character and adding that much more ice to her cool exterior.
As Decider points out, Ms. Roberts has already had an impressive career, proving herself and showcasing her acting talents in everything from indie projects, to feature films, to television, and more. Emma even experimented with music, releasing the album Unfabulous and More. Give “Dummy” from that album a listen:
The Aquamarine (2006) actress seems to have recognized the great opportunity provided by Ryan Murphy and his projects, because she’s stuck with American Horror Story through several seasons and has taken on a lead role in Scream Queens, excelling in every character she’s played, even when the role has been minor.
While we’re waiting for the Wednesday, October 7, premiere of American Horror Story, fans of Emma Roberts can continue to enjoy her Scream Queens character on Tuesdays on Fox.
