WWE Rumors: Vince McMahon Upset Over Low Ratings, Could Be Planning Big Shakeup
The WWE is lagging in the ratings, and rumors indicate that Vince McMahon is planning to do something big about it.
The fall season means the return of football, and as so often happens, that also brings a dip in the WWE’s ratings. But the CEO and chairman of the WWE is rumored to upset about the ratings drop this year, and may try to bring in a twist that could help turn it around.
Wrestle Zone reports.
“According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live, Vince McMahon is apparently “freaking out” over the recent decline in WWE ratings, but that tends to happen with Vince around this time every year with football returning. When Vince is in this kind of mood about the ratings, WWE usually does something big to try and shake things up, so it will be interesting to see what lies ahead.”
The ratings drop for the WWE has been a bit steep, including some of its reality shows. WAGS, a reality show featuring Kelly Kelly that made its debut this week on E!, fell to 370,000 viewers this week, about half of what it got last week. Total Divas fell as well, though by a smaller margin.
The WWE rumors don’t get into specifics about what Vince McMahon could do to boost ratings, but he may have just lost one of the best options to bring in viewers. Sting, who made his highly anticipated return to the ring, suffered a neck injury during Night of Champions that some believe could put his wrestling future in jeopardy.
Sting’s manager tried to downplay the injury in a statement.
“As many of you may already know, Sting is undergoing treatment for the injuries he sustained in last night’s match with Seth Rollins. Doctors will continue to evaluate his condition, but he is a man of remarkable health and resiliency, especially at his age and with all he’s endured throughout his stellar career. Therefore, we are optimistic he will have a speedy recovery and return to full health soon. Sting has kept his body in excellent shape, due largely to the guidance he’s received from his personal trainer Jeff Cavaliere (ATHLEAN-X), and we trust this will prove beneficial to the recovery process. As a side note, we later learned the greatest damage to his body took place before the match was over, but being the true professional he is and among the hardest workers to ever step foot in the ring, he insisted to see the match through to the end.”
Though there is optimism that his injury isn’t too serious, there are rumors that the WWE may not want to risk putting him back in the ring at all and opening the possibility of a more serious spinal injury. So if Vince McMahon truly does want to do something drastic, it likely won’t involve Sting.
