Singers Emilio and Gloria Estefan Protest Trump’s Controversial Comments With New Song Entitled “We’re All Mexican”
After the controversial comments he made regarding Mexico and Hispanics, Donald Trump is being protested by Spanish singers Emilio and Gloria Estefan (in addition to nearly every other famous person of Hispanic descent). The Estefans teamed up with guitarist Carlos Santana and several other Latino celebrities to turn out the tune “We’re All Mexican,” a protest song against Trump’s commentary that “[Mexican immigrants] are rapists…bringing drugs, and…bringing crime” to the U.S. Mr. Trump tried to retract his words by adding that he assumed some Mexican immigrants were good people, but the damage had already been done in the eyes of the Hispanic community.
CNN notes that the singer’s video also features Pitbull, Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas, Eva Longoria, chef Jose Andres, and many other celebrities. Furthermore, the site mentions that the video will be released during National Hispanic Month, which ranges from September 15 to October 15. Several other singers and musical groups have protested Trump as well, including R.E.M. and Neil Young, both of whom became upset that Trump used their songs (“It’s The End Of The World As We Know It” and “Rockin’ In The Free World”, respectively) without permission for a campaign neither artist supports.
Good to hear Neil Young’s “rockin in the free world” at Bernie Sanders event in NH. Take that Donald Trump. #FeelTheBern

Emilio Estefan told Billboard that “We’re All Mexicans” was intended to be a “celebration” of Hispanics and their achievements. As the site mentioned, the singer feels the world is being given the wrong opinion, and this video seeks to express the pride of Hispanic people. The video was uploaded to Estefan’s official Youtube channel three days ago on September 20.
The video meshes together very traditional Latino images such as Spanish Missionary buildings and depictions of the celebratory Carnival with images of the Statue of Liberty and the American Flag. “I think it’s great. I think it’s beautiful to unite with people and to fight for a cause and represent a cause,” Latina actress Sofia Vergara told KPHO about the singers’ video, going on to state her feelings that more doors in the television industry are open for Latinos now than they were 20 years ago when she began her career. In addition to the “We’re All Mexican” video, Emilio was reported to be working on an unrelated Broadway musical as well.
ET noted that the video’s Youtube description further explains the title of the song, which is meant to metaphorically describe everyone as ‘Mexican’, meaning anyone can feel the same prejudice and bigotry Mexicans currently suffer from.
