Step aside, birthers ! “Transcripters” are on the rise, and one of them is demanding to see Obama’s college transcripts. He’s offering a bounty of $20,000 to anyone who can drudge up the documents.
If you’re not too keen on President Obama, but don’t really see eye-to-eye with the “birthers” trying to get him out of office, you may find some solace in “transcripter” territory. We haven’t seen the President’s college transcripts yet, and that’s exactly what some in the conservative sphere want to see – to discredit the President and undermine his (according to conservatives, “alleged”) intelligence.
According to the Los Angeles Times who coined the term “transcripters”, a website called The Trenches is offering $20,000 for Obama’s transcripts from Harvard Law School, Columbia University, and Occidental College.
Questioning why the media was so interested in George Bush’s transcripts, yet haven’t even hinted at interest for Obama’s in three years, the website states, “We’re not convinced that Barack is as smart as you media elitists keep insisting he is. We therefore offer in reward $10,000 $20,000 to anyone who provides the college transcripts of President Barack Obama. Occidental, Harvard, Columbia…any would represent more intellectual curiosity about the leader of the free world than the media has demonstrated since Obama won the Democrat primary.”
Donald Trump, an almost-full-on birther, has shown interest in Obama’s transcripts in the past, saying, “The word is, according to what I’ve read, that he was a terrible student when he went to Occidental. He then gets into Columbia; he then gets to Harvard. … How do you get into Harvard if you’re not a good student? Now maybe that’s right or maybe it’s wrong, but I don’t know why he doesn’t release his records.”
But wait, the first question we should ask is whether Obama’s transcripts would damn him at all. So… would they?
George Bush was a C student. So was John Kerry, his one-time opponent. Bush even once said, “And to the C students, I say you too can be president of the United States.” Pretty encouraging stuff for the national average. Regardless, Obama graduated from Harvard magna cum laude, which you can’t pull on C’s. Upcoming opponent Mitt Romney was a pretty good student too. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a 3.97 grade point average and was in the top 5% of his class at Harvard Business School.
