Seattle Mariners Rumors: Can M’s Still Make MLB Playoffs?
Seattle Mariners rumors about the team making the 2015 MLB Playoffs have sparked fan interest. The Mariners rumors suggest that the team still has a good shot to make the postseason as long as they keep on winning. On Tuesday, September 22, the Mariners ran up the score on the Kansas City Royals, winning 11-2. The team had 13 hits, jumping out to an 11-0 lead by the end of the fourth inning.
Robinson Cano had two home runs on the day, driving in four runs and raising his batting average to.283 on the season. Cano now has 19 home runs to his credit, far out-pacing what he did during the 2014 MLB season. He wasn’t alone on offense, as Kyle Seager (25th), Brad Miller (10th), and Jesus Montero (5th) each hit home runs as well. Adding to the offense, Nelson Cruz was 2-for-4 at the plate to raise his average to.311 on the season.
With this victory, the Mariners improved to 74-77 on the season, which isn’t quite where the team wanted to be this year. It is still far better than the team played in the first half of the season, showing that there is still some fight in the clubhouse. Where the Seattle Mariners rumors about the 2015 MLB Playoffs come into play is that the team has yet to be eliminated from postseason contention.
With the victory and a loss by the Texas Rangers, the Mariners aren’t even officially eliminated from possibly winning the American League West. It’s going to be tough, though, as the team has a seven-game deficit to make up on the Rangers. In the wild card race, the Mariners trail the Houston Astros by six games for that second slot. This all means that the Mariners still have a shot at making it into the 2015 MLB Playoffs, even if it is still considered to be a longshot.
There are just 11 games left on the schedule for the Mariners, but three games against the Houston Astros take place at Safeco Field next week (September 28-30). Sweeping that series and winning three more games that the Astros do in the other eight contests would create a tie for the second American League wild card spot. It would force a tie-breaker game that could allow the Mariners to sneak into the postseason. There is a lot of work left for the Seattle Mariners rumors about the postseason to come true, but it’s not impossible.
