‘Twilight’ Star Robert Pattinson Explains The Roles He Chooses, ‘I Kind Of Do Everything For Myself’
Although he has one of largest and most loyal fan bases around, Twilight alum Robert Pattinson doesn’t choose movie roles in order to please anyone, including his fans. In fact, Pattinson revealed in a recent interview with the Associated Press that he doesn’t pick roles based on anyone’s opinion but his own.
According to People, Pattinson revealed that he is very selfish when considering the movies he chooses to be in, and for good reason. “I don’t think about it at all,” Pattinson stated concerning what others think he should play.
“I will go through periods where I will think, ‘Oh, maybe I should do a commercial movie’… And then I just think, someone gave me a really great piece of advice – someone from my agency, weirdly – they said the only clients that are happy are the ones that just do what they want to do. So I just kind of do everything for myself.”
True to his comments, since his role in the hit Twilight series, Robert Pattinson has decided to pick parts that are outside of mainstream Hollywood, including his upcoming film, Life. Pattinson plays a photographer in the movie named Dennis Stock, who is tasked with photographing James Dean.
In addition to being outside the realm of blockbuster type films, Pattinson’s role in Life gave him a special insight into the world of the paparazzi.
“It is interesting to feel the power trip, especially when I was shooting the scene on the red carpet, when you are part of the massive throng of people, and not only are you part of the crowd and hidden but you have something you can hide your own face [with]… You just see all the pressure is on someone else. It is kind of nice, you feel all secure in your little pack. It is very different.”
Pattinson went on to discuss his own level of fame, and admitted that he did not really understand the extent of his own fame until much later in his career.
“The first period of getting famous was incredibly strange to me and really fun at the beginning because you didn’t realize the consequences of anything… You could say or do whatever you wanted and it just didn’t matter. I only realized what being famous was about three years after I got famous, four years afterwards.”
Robert Pattinson is currently in Belfast shooting The Lost City of Z with Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam.
