‘Gotham’ Season 2 — It Is The ‘Rise Of The Villains’ In The Season Premiere, Where To Watch Online
With the Season 2 premiere of Gotham finally seen by fans, it is clear that the series promises to feature a heavy dose of villains. In fact, in a recent trailer released on Den of Geek, the show has dubbed this season as the “Rise of the Villains.” With that in mind, which bad guys, and girls, can fans expect to feature prominently in the new season?
Based on the promo clips for Season 2, Barbara Kean’s (Erin Richards) storyline is one that will be expanded. In the video, Barbara is seen inside the infamous Arkham Asylum, where she interacts with Jerome (Cameron Monaghan). As many have speculated, Jerome is set to become The Joker at some point down the road.
In the scene, Jerome tries to convince Barbara that she needs protection behind bars, to which Barbara promptly gets the largest guy in the room to be her new friend and ally. Besides the subtle hints that this interaction isn’t the last one we’ll see between the two, is this season when we finally get to see The Joker emerge?
“We’re going to find out how the hell Jerome, the proto-Joker we met earlier in this season, connects with the Joker as people known him,” Bruno Heller revealed in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter. “That’s the big focus of the beginning of the second season. We’re going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be…That’s teaser enough, I think.”
At the same time, Monaghan even posted a pic on Instagram that strongly indicated that fans will see more of his character’s development this season. The photo featured Monaghan in lipstick with a monochrome filter that looks awfully close to The Joker.
With the trailer and social media posts, it is clear that The Joker will be featured prominently in Season 2, though to what extent is still to be seen. Meanwhile, according to the official synopsis, the show will dive into the back stories of several other villains, including The Riddler and Mr. Freeze. Elsewhere, Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) will discover more of his father’s secret past.
Like Season 1, the new season is set to be comprised of 22 episodes. With the decent amount of success the series enjoyed last year, it is hoped that the show will continue its run and see an uptake in ratings.
