Colin Cowherd’s Nemesis Johnny Manziel Responds To Radio Host’s Criticism With Huge Win

Colin Cowherd is never short on opinions. Last week, he made it known how little he thinks of Johnny Manziel’s future in the NFL.

So how did Johnny Football respond this week on the field? With a decisive victory over the Marcus Mariota-led Tennesee Titans.

As reported by Waiting For Next Year, Colin’s opening rant last week centered on Manziel’s talent, which in Cowherd’s mind does not equal the hype that surrounds him.

“Why does Johnny Manziel bother me? I love football… I’m thinking about Johnny Manziel, and this is why [Tim] Tebow bothered me. He’s ‘practical joke guy’ at work. He’s briefly popular—the schmucks think he’s funny… They do that to get attention because they’re not really talented enough to get attention. All the smart people know [to] just let it run its cycle. He’ll eventually end up where he should end up. It’s the same with Johnny Manziel.”

But in beating the Tennessee Titans as the starting quarterback for the Browns yesterday, Manziel looked anything but a “practical joke.” He flashed brilliant accuracy on a deep ball to Travis Benjamin on the second play of the game yesterday. He followed it up with a heads up scramble-and-throw again to Benjamin with the game on the line late in the fourth quarter.

The end result? Johnny Football led the Cleveland Browns to victory — his first in the NFL. And according to ESPN, Johnny Manziel is most certainly in the conversation to remain as the starter, despite Colin Cowherd’s predictions.

“Manziel did have two fumbles that could have changed the game had the Browns not recovered, but could-haves and would-haves do not change the final score. Coach Mike Pettine only said after the game that Josh McCown remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol, and he would cross the starter-decision bridge when he got to it. Manziel certainly gave the coach something to think about.”

Which is more than many pundits, including Colin, thought would be the case with Johnny Football. The polarizing quarterback drew several comparisons to the aforementioned Tim Tebow — who Cowherd has repeatedly torched in his monologues over the years — for creating distractions and not being able to back up the hype with enough talent to win in the NFL. But unlike Tebow, it looks as though Manziel actually has the throwing ability to be accurate enough to win.

Take that, Colin Cowherd.
