2012 Indy 500 To Stream Live Online
In a few hours the engines will roar at the Indy 500. The annual Indy Car race, which is now in its 96th year, will kick off today at 12:00 EST. The race will be broadcast on ABC but ESPN3 will also be showing the 2012 Indy 500 live online.
ESPN3’s online broadcast will feature 12 live onboard cameras. Indy 500 fans can watch the race live from pole-sitter Ryan Briscoe’s car, or from the cars of Marco Andretti, Dario Franchitti, James Hinchcliffe, Charlie Kimball, Tony Kanaan, J.R. Hildebrand, Will Power, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Rubens Barrichello, Graham Rahal and Helio Castroneves.
You can check out the online stream here.
Some NASCAR fans were disappointed to learn that Danica Patrick, who moved on from the IndyCar series this year, would not be participating in the Indy 500.
Driver Graham Rahal, however, assured fans that the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” would be fine without her. Rahal said:
“The race lived for what, 80 or 90 years before she showed up? It’s going to live without her. It’s a great thing (that she’s gone) because No. 1, we can just get back to racing, and No. 2, you’ve got so many other guys in here that deserve a chance. They have a story or have a personality, and if she were here, you probably wouldn’t be talking to them too much.”
Patrick isn’t the only staple missing from this year’s Indy 500. Jim Nabors, who has sang ”Back Home Again in Indiana” at the start of the Indy 500 since the 1980s will miss today’s race due to illness.
