Terrell Owens Considering Hate Crime Charges After Starbucks Confrontation [Video]
Ex-NFL star Terrell Owens reportedly might file hate crime charges against a 28-year-old man who hurled racial slurs and insults at him in a confrontation at a Los Angeles Starbucks.
Video of the man’s racially charged tirade was obtained by TMZ (see NSFW video embedded below)
The “fan who became a non-fan” as Owens described it claimed that Owens kicked him inside the Starbucks outlet and threw a cup of hot coffee at him in the parking lot. He reportedly lodged a police report about the encounter with Owens, alleging a battery.
Owens instead says the man identified by TMZ as “Arman” threw a cup of liquid at Owens as he and his companion were leaving the coffee shop in their car and T.O. returned the favor.
The man allegedly had followed Owens and a female friend around the Starbucks store and acted in an overbearing manner according to Owens.
“The language makes it seem like the attack was racially motivated. Translation: hate crime. Arman denies throwing liquid into T.O.’s car, and maintains the whole incident started when Owens kicked him inside the Starbucks. Police initially investigated the incident as a battery against Arman, but with one phone call to cops… T.O. could flip the script,” TMZ reported.
Police have the altercation that occurred in Brentwood on Tuesday night under investigation.
The wide receiver this past week was among 108 nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The list will ultimately be narrowed to 15 finalists by January 2016. A six-time Pro Bowler, Owens played for five NFL teams in 15 pro seasons, finishing his career with nearly 16,000 receiving yards (good for second place in NFL history) and 153 receiving touchdowns, leading the league in three seasons in TD receptions.
TMZ caught up with Arman and questioned him about taunting Terrell Owens with racial slurs.
“We spoke with Arman, who first denied using the n-word. But when we told him we had the video he said he never put an ‘r’ at the end… ‘I use that word and it’s very much accepted in the black community…’
“‘I just wanted to make him mad and sad. I’m Middle Eastern and Muslim and not KKK… There’s freedom of speech but there’s not freedom of attack. He kicked me in the Starbucks.”
Arman has also denied throwing anything at T.O.
Terrell Owens recently appeared on Celebrity Wife Swap but without his estranged wife Rachel Snider, which prompted a Twitter war between the two.
