Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Team May Look At Terrelle Pryor After Dez Bryant’s Injury
The Dallas Cowboys were dealt a huge blow in the opening game of the 2015 NFL regular season when wide receiver Dez Bryant broke a bone in his foot. He will now miss four to six weeks, and his absence makes a huge hole in the Cowboys’ offense that will need to be filled. Rumor has it that the Cowboys are looking at a number of free agent receivers, but is Terrelle Pryor really one of them?
According to Sports World Report, the Cowboys are just one of a number of teams that are looking at possibly bringing in Pryor. The New England Patriots have already brought him in for a tryout while the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks are next.
New England is dealing with a number of injuries and one is to Brandon LaFell who is a key component of their receiving game. If Pryor were to land with the Patriots, it likely wouldn’t be for the long term since they have a good bit of depth.
Now, as Sports Illustrated reported, the Cowboys did acquire Brice Butler in a trade with the Oakland Raiders earlier this week. That trade took place on Wednesday and the Raiders will get a conditional fifth-round draft pick in 2016 for Butler.
With the Cowboys prepping to face the Philadelphia Eagles on the road this Sunday, Butler could end up seeing some playing time already with his new team.
Terrelle Pryor started out his NFL career as a quarterback, the same as he was in college, but it just wasn’t working out. The Cleveland Browns signed him in the offseason to play wide receiver, but he was cut and didn’t make the final regular season roster.
Browns head coach Mike Pettine believed the final roster spot was better suited for running back Robert Turbin.
“Terrelle was a guy that we held on to largely because of his potential. We viewed that spot as the 53rd roster spot and there was a lot of debate over it. Terrelle certainly has the ability to make the transition to receiver. We were hopeful that we were going to be able to have that time to do it, but that, to me, is viewed as a luxury.”
Terrelle Pryor will likely end up playing wide receiver somewhere in the NFL, but it may not be with the Dallas Cowboys. After Dez Bryant’s injury though, anything is possible and that also means that Wes Welker could get a second look as well.
