Tim Cook On ‘Late Show’ Talks iPhone, Steve Jobs And How He Can Make A Difference
Apple CEO Tim Cook appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Tuesday night and said Apple is committed to contributing more to the world.
According to CNN Money, Cook explained he wants Apple to do more for charity than his predecessor, Steve Jobs, and he has the capability of doing it. Last year, Cook announced he was gay, and this is the main reason he wants to make a difference.
“It became so clear to me kids were being bullied in school, kids were getting discriminated against, kids were even being disowned by their own parents. I needed to do something.”
In a recent article by the Inquisitr, Tim Cook spoke out about the importance of privacy, but in this case, he is sacrificing his privacy in an effort to help others.
“I valued my privacy significantly, [but] I felt that I was valuing it too far above what I could do for other people. I wanted to tell everyone my truth.”
In a report by CNET Magazine, the interview with Cook was not all serious talk, though. In usual Colbert style, various jokes were intertwined into the conversation.
With the new iPhone 6S available next week, Colbert wanted to know if Apple changed the charger. Tim Cook said it is no different than the previous iPhone charger.
To that Colbert exclaimed, “Good, because I will stab you in the neck with a fondue fork!”
Holding an iPhone, Colbert asked Siri, iPhone’s digital assistant, “What should I ask Tim Cook?” Siri’s response? “Do me a favor, ask him when I’m going to get a raise.”
With the soon to be released biopics portraying Steve Jobs as an unforgiving and authoritarian executive, Tim Cook defended the late Apple co-founder.
“He was a joy to work with. I think that a lot of people are trying to be opportunistic, and I hate this. It’s not a great part of our world.”
Additionally, Cook admired Jobs as having an “uncanny ability to see around the corner.”
When pressed about the possible plans for a future self-driving Apple car and creating original content for Apple TV, Tim Cook refused to confirm or deny any such rumors.
In addition to Tim Cook, Stephen Colbert’s new show has hosted other tech moguls, including Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk and Uber CEO Travis Kalanick.
Tim Cook also made an unannounced visit at the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue just prior to arriving for The Late Show taping. With the launch of the new iPhone September 25, expect to see more of Tim Cook and other Apple execs promoting the new smart phone on other shows and venues.
