Donald Trump Faces Fierce Conservative Ad Campaign
A rather wealthy conservative group has decided to launch a major ad campaign to bring Donald Trump down
The Club for Growth decided to go on the offensive against the current Republican front-runner, and according to a New York Times article, has already decided to spend at least a million dollars in anti-Trump ads in Iowa alone – and that is just for the next couple of days. According to the NY Times article, the Club for Growth’s president David M. McIntosh said his organization plans on spending even more in the following weeks.
“The Club for Growth is committed to seeing this all the way through,” McIntosh said during a press conference in the nation’s capital, in an apparent declaration of political war against Donald Trump.
“We’ll continue doing it until people realize that Donald Trump is not an economic conservative.”
The NY Times article described the current anti-Trump campaign as “a two-pronged approach to try to discredit the candidate.”
This “two-pronged approach” involves ads that aim to discredit Donald Trump as a conservative candidate by shedding more light on his earlier liberal views. The approach will also focus on Trump’s previous business record “of hurting middle class Americans to bolster his own business interests.”
Club for Growth has already posted two anti-Trump ads on its YouTube page today, according to ABC News. Its first ad, titled “Politician,” takes aim at Donald Trump’s economic policy views.
The ad begins with photos of Democratic candidates Bernie Sanders and Hilary Clinton and asks, “Which presidential candidate supports higher taxes, national health care, and the Wall Street bailout?” It then fades to a photo of Donald Trump.
“It’s Donald Trump,” the voice-over states.
The ad then shows a clip of a CNN interview with Donald Trump dated March 21, 2004 in which Trump says, “In many cases I probably identify more as a Democrat.”
The ad ends with the slogan: “Trump: Just another politician.”
According to USA Today, Donald Trump was quick to respond to the new ad campaign. In just the past few hours, Donald Trump took to Twitter to launch his own campaign of tweets attacking the Club for Growth.
In the first tweet, Trump claimed that Club for Growth asked him for some funding – $1 million, according to Trump. He claimed that they launched this new attack at him after he refused to fund them.
Little respected Club For Growth asked me for $1,000,000 – I said "NO". Now they are spending lobbyist and special interest money on ads!

Donald Trump also denied Club for Growth’s claims that he does not want to lower taxes.
.@club4growth asked me for $1 million. I said no. Now falsely advertising that I will raise taxes. I’ll lower big league for middle class.

With Republican polls are still in his favor and the Republican debate just hours away, we can only wait and see how much damage – if any – this ad campaign will have on Donald Trump.
