‘Arrow’ And ‘Hobbit’ Actor Manu Bennett Arrested For Drunken Assault

Manu Bennett, the actor famous for playing a villain in both The Hobbit and Arrow, was arrested for assault early Sunday morning.

According to People, the San Antonio Police Department took Manu Bennett, 45, into custody after allegedly “punching a 29-year-old male during a disturbance at a party.”

The incident occurred after the convention had shut down for the day. Bennett was reported to have assaulted the man a little past 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Bennett was in the city for the Alamo City Comic Con at the time of the arrest, reported KENS5. He was scheduled as a celebrity guest for Saturday and Sunday on the Comic Con’s website.

According to My San Antonio, the report said someone had asked Manu Bennett to leave the hotel room because he was “causing a scene.”

“[Bennett] agreed to leave the room but before leaving [he] picked up a chair and was laughing at the situation. [A witness] stated that everyone in the room thought [Bennett] was playing around but several seconds later [he] set the chair on the floor and started to stare everyone down.”

As Bennett was exiting the room, he stopped in front of a man by the door and began to stare at him. The report then states that when the 29-year-old man asked “What?” Bennett punched him in the face. The man fell to the floor with a bloody nose.

KEN5 reports that a spokesperson for the San Antonio Police Department said someone had called the police saying there was an “assault in progress” at the Grand Hyatt hotel downtown. When police went to Bennet’s room to question him, the report said he did not know what had happened or what the officers were referring to.

Manu Bennett is being charged with assault causing bodily injury. Bennett was held on a $1,600 bond and was released just before 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Manu Bennett, born Jonathan Manu Bennett, was born in Auckland, New Zealand. Bennett is best known for his portrayal of the powerful gladiator Crixus on the hit series Spartacus. Manu can also be seen in hit show Arrow, playing legendary comic book character Slade Wilson, better known as Deathstroke.

Manu Bennett also starred as Azog, king of the Orcs, in The Hobbit trilogy, a role which, according to IMDB, won Bennett exceptional praise from director Peter Jackson, who stated that he was “the breakout performance” of the film.
