Listen To Miley Cyrus’ New Song ‘Hands Of Love’ From The ‘Freeheld’ Soundtrack
Miley Cyrus is releasing some new music. Just weeks after she dropped her surprise new album, Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz, the singer is releasing a new song for another project.
This time, Miley is releasing music for the new lesbian drama, Freeheld. The singer’s new song, “Hands of Love,” is on the movie’s soundtrack and trailer, so Miley’s fans don’t have to wait to listen to it.
Freeheld is based on the story of Stacie Andree and Laurel Hester, a real-life lesbian couple who fought New Jersey county officials for equal benefits and rights. Julianne Moore and Ellen Page play the lesbian couple, and attended the film’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday, September 13.
Grammy Award-winning music producer and songwriter Linda Perry penned the lyrics to “Hand of Love” for the film’s soundtrack. Ellen Page told Time magazine that she was the one who suggested that Cyrus should sing on the track.
“She has a really raw, unique, awesome, beautiful voice, and Miley’s doing a lot of incredible things for the LGBTQ community. I just thought it was going to be a perfect fit. She and Linda made something really special. I kept listening to it after I heard it.”
Ellen also noted that Miley acted like a complete professional when she recorded the song. Although Miley’s known for her crazy onstage antics, she’s a true professional when she walks into the recording studio.
“She walked in with no entourage, no fuss, no anything. She came to be of service for the song and the movie and didn’t bring ‘Miley’ with her.”
It’s a departure from how the 22-year-old worked on her Dead Petz album. Miley revealed that she worked on the experimental tracks during some many late nights.
“I recorded half those songs at like 3 a.m. about my truth, or right after having a sh***y conversation with someone I love. I would literally be on the phone crying and go straight into the booth or just work at my house.”
The “Wrecking Ball” singer showed her appreciation for being a part of the project. Cyrus took to Instagram to share a photo that says “Love Is Love.” Cyrus captioned the photo: “proud to be apart of @freeheldmovie singin a tune written by da bad a** @jesusonmars & thank you to this incredible cast for giving a face to this incredible story and shining light on the brutal dark truth of love vs the law!”
Miley Cyrus has been a longtime advocate for the gay rights community. Earlier this year, Miley launched the Happy Hippie Foundation, an organization that focuses mostly on homeless LGBTQ youth. She calls the organization the one “thing that I’m most proud of in my life.”
