Teen Wolf show creator Jeff Davis thought this season – the show’s fifth – would be the last going into the series.
In talking about the aftermath Teen Wolf characters will encounter after the mid-season finale – one that saw several big secrets revealed as well as new mysterious arise – Davis confirmed his initial plan was to end the show after the season, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
“When we initially planned this, I thought season five was going to be the last season of Teen Wolf , so we were planning on going out pretty big. We’re still planning on going out big — it’s just now we’re going to get another season.”
So what changed? For one, MTV ordered 20 more episodes of Teen Wolf as the network announced at the San Diego Comic Con.
The second reason is the network has been dropping viewers at a steady rate, and even stalwarts like the MTV Video Music Awards hit viewership lows this year, the New York Times wrote. A program like Teen Wolf – with a rabid following – helps MTV attract younger viewers during the summer months that might otherwise avoid the network.
Despite the renewal, season six is still a distant future for the Teen Wolf creator.
“Usually, when someone starts to bring up season six, another person says, ‘I don’t even want to think about that right now.’”
He reiterated the same thoughts on a recent Artist Alley Podcast by Zap2It .
“I have no idea what’s going to happen with Season 6. I have no idea if I’ll be alive after 5B.”
Some of the stars of Teen Wolf have already weighed in on the show’s potential path. At an event earlier this year, Tyler Posey – who plays Scott – suggested that the show and cast could do a time jump, much like Pretty Little Liars did earlier this year . Posey’s reasoning for a time jump was to rid the show of the high school, which is almost like its own character in his opinion.
With season six confirmed, will that be the last? The Teen Wolf creator laughed when asked about plans for the 2016-2017 season.
“I have no idea. Who knows if [that] will be the last season or not.”
