‘Metal Gear Solid 5’ Was Supposed To Have A Third Chapter [Report]
If you thought Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was skinny on its story content, new information circling the internet might point to why that could be. While we know that publisher Konami was trying to jettison anything to do with game director Hideo Kojima, and in doing so could have negative effects on the game itself, fans of the series may have noticed a general lack in the epic-length cutscenes and overall story content on par with previous entries. Well, if the source is correct, there might have been a third chapter cut from the game.
Players on the forum Facepunch have discovered files within the game that suggest there was a third chapter in Metal Gear Solid 5 and subsequently taken out. The players have also found files in the PC version of Metal Gear, suggesting that The Phantom Pain was also supposed to feature more prominent characters other than just what’s available, most notably “The Boss.” Some players figured this was Paz’s texture, who was last seen in the Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes prequel, other players are disputing that.
Why Kojima Productions would leave these textures and files in the final game is a mystery, though it could be to help the modding community. Regardless, if these files truly point to content cut from the final version of Metal Gear Solid 5, it’s disheartening to see that a game already short of story content compared to previous games lose even more content before it’s released. It raises the question: Just how much was potentially stripped from the game thanks to the mired dealings going on between Kojima and Konami? What it makes you think is that Konami wanted to get Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain shipped as fast as possible in order to cut ties with Kojima as quickly as possible.
Regardless of the potentially missing content, many people are still enjoying the latest title in the Metal Gear franchise, fans and critics alike. Many players are praising the game’s openness, giving players the freedom to tackle any mission the way they choose: by stealth, head on, or a mixture of the two. However, the game hasn’t been without issues, especially in terms of possible game-breaking bugs. As the Inquisitr recently reported, a bug has plagued the game, causing save files to become corrupted if you play with the new character, Quiet. Konami is currently working on a fix for the issue.
What do you think about Metal Gear Solid 5 potentially missing a third chapter to the game, as well as cutting characters from the final release? Sound off in the comments below.
