Disney’s Live Action ‘Jungle Book’ Reveals First Footage Ahead Of Trailer
Disney has released the first few seconds of footage from its highly anticipated live action adaptation of The Jungle Book, revealing the stunning setting for the film, as well as a brief shadow that gives fans their first look at Mowgli.
The very first time footage from The Jungle Book was shown in public took place earlier this year, at Disney’s D23 expo in Anaheim. Attendees at the conference were reportedly impressed by the clip, though reports surrounding it fell by the wayside in the wake of multiple announcements surrounding Star Wars. As is common at such events, the footage wasn’t released online, leaving the general public with little more than a description of what is to come when the film opens next year.
Now, however, Disney has publicly revealed the first few seconds of footage from The Jungle Book. Coming in the form of a Vine, the brief clip depicts the setting of the upcoming film, unveiling a very realistic take on the densely forested background. The short clip was released ahead of the film’s first trailer, which is reportedly set to debut on Monday, as Screencrush notes. Disney had previously released several images from the film, giving fans a close look at Mowgli and Bagheera, yet it was impossible to determine from those stills what the Jungle Book would look like in an actual live action presentation, as Cinemablend points out.

Disney’s The Jungle Book is set to open next year, but astonishingly, it isn’t the only major adaptation currently in the works. Opening against Disney’s Jon Favreau-helmed production will be a Warner Bros. film, Jungle Book: Origins, and both movies have managed to assemble staggeringly deep casts. On the Disney side, The Jungle Book will feature Bill Murray as Baloo, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Scarlett Johansson as Kaa, Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Christopher Walken as King Louie, Lupita Nyong’o as Raksha, and Neel Sethi as Mowgli.

Warner Bros.’ Jungle Book: Origins boasts no less stellar a gathering of talent, with Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan, Christian Bale as Bagheera, Cate Blanchett as Kaa, and Andy Serkis both directing and appearing as Baloo. Naomie Harris will portray Nisha in the Warner Bros. film, while Rohan Chand appears as Mowgli.
Fans attached to the 1967 Disney version will be quick to note that the Warner Bros. production does not feature an actor playing King Louie. In addition, Disney’s new take on The Jungle Book will feature Bill Murray performing Baloo’s classic, “The Bare Necessities.”
Disney’s live action Jungle Book opens in theaters on April 15, 2016.
