The Ashley Madison updates are coming quickly once more, with more sad news of another suicide to report surrounding the Ashley Madison hacking. Previously, at least three Ashley Madison suicides were unofficially linked to the hacking.
As reported by the New York Daily News , a pastor exposed in the Ashley Madison hacking killed himself after only six days following the leaking of the list of Ashley Madison usernames.
The 56-year-old man was named Dr. John Gibson, and he wrote a suicide note detailing his depression and having his name appear on the Ashley Madison list. Dr. Gibson worried about losing his job as a pastor, and his wife, Christi, communicated to CNN Money via a video interview about the Ashley Madison suicide about the power of love and forgiveness, and her regrets that John took such a desperate route.
“Don’t underestimate the power of love. Nothing is worth the loss of a husband and a father and a friend.”
It was on August 24 when Christi discovered her husband’s body. The pastor and seminary professor was known as a man with a great sense of humor – one that will be sorely missed by his wife and two children. Ashley Madison hasn’t commented on this latest news about the suicide of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary teacher.
However, Ashley Madison remains in the news because of the lawsuits being filed against the website’s parent company. As reported by KSDK, an unnamed woman filed suit against Avid Life Media, Inc. Unlike the male John Does that have filed suit against Ashley Madison, this time it’s a Jane Doe from St. Louis County who has filed a lawsuit due to her personal information being leaked online in the hacking. She claims to have paid the $19 fee charged by Ashley Madison to delete her information, which wasn’t deleted.
In other Ashley Madison news, Brian Krebs, the cyber security journalist credited with breaking the hacking story wide open online, has been threatened by the ex-Ashley Madison CTO with a libel lawsuit .
Krebs explains that the libel lawsuit was a threat levied against him, trying to get him to post a retraction for a previous Ashley Madison article.
“Nevertheless, I have no intention of posting a retraction or correcting any elements of this story. But I’m publishing a copy of the letter (PDF) from Bhatia’s lawyer in the likely event that other publications have also received libel and defamation threats from AshleyMadison and/or its current and former employees.”
