Bob Harper To Host ‘The Biggest Loser’ Season 17 In Wake Of Alison Sweeney’s Departure
A new season of The Biggest Loser is on the way, and there’s some big news now breaking for fans. Though many were disappointed to hear that Alison Sweeney was stepping down as the show’s host, it seems that trainer Bob Harper is stepping into the role. What’s the scoop?
People reports that Bob Harper will be the new host as Season 17 begins airing in early 2016. While Bob won’t be training the contestants in the same way he has in past seasons, he will still be heavily involved with the contestants from the sounds of things. Jennifer Widerstrom and Dolvett Quince will be back as trainers.

Harper has a vision for where he wants to take Season 17 of The Biggest Loser and there will be some changes. He says that since he knows all of the scoop on the show from the training standpoint, he’s got ideas for what he’d like to change. Fans will be quite interested to see how the show shifts with the long-time trainer taking on a new role like this.
Harper says that “the weigh-in room is going to be a completely different ballgame with me at the steering wheel.” Bob knows all the tricks that trainers and contestants use to have success come weigh-in day, and it sounds like he may shake things up a bit on this front.
Fans know that sometimes during past seasons, Bob and former trainer Jillian Michaels would be frustrated or disheartened by some of the game play that took place among contestants. While Harper may not be able to eliminate that entirely, it sounds as if he plans to use the role and voice he has now as a host to bring some changes and discussions into the mix of things.
According to E! Online, Quince and Widerstrom will each lead a team of contestants. It seems that each trainer will have eight teams of two on their side. There will, of course, be twists incorporated for Season 17, but fans will have to wait a bit yet to learn more on that front.

Harper will be sharing his expertise with the teams as the season plays out, and putting the trainer in this hosting role could very well open up some great opportunities to change the show a bit heading into this next season. Bob has been with the show since the beginning, and he says he’s super excited about this new position with the franchise.
Season 17 of The Biggest Loser is set to begin filming this month, with a premiere date featuring a team-versus-team format coming over the winter. While fans will definitely miss seeing Alison Sweeney on the show, choosing Bob Harper to step into the hosting spot is definitely a move that should go over well.
