Barney Frank Wants President Obama Far Away From His Wedding [Video]
Barney Frank, The Massachusetts Congressman who also happens to be the only openly gay member of the House, has said that when he get married in July he is hoping there is one couple who will not attend…President Obama and his wife Michelle. He has nothing against the first couple, he just doesn’t want his guests to have to put up with all the Secret Service security procedures Frank said on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” on Sunday.
Frank said in truth,
“If he and his wife wanted to come, I would be delighted and honored to have them,”
Frank then told the program that his wedding was being held in Newton Massachusetts on a holiday weekend and he didn’t want people to have to go thorough too much security. Obama recently endorsed same sex marriage.
He said:
“I don’t want to be accused of having shut down the entire region for a five-mile radius on a holiday weekend. I don’t want my guests going through a magnetometer. I would be flattered to have the president do that, but it would ruin the party to have the Secret Service. I’m not critical of them, but they can go take their layered protection of the president somewhere else. Not to my party.”
Frank has been out of the closet since 1987. His Congressional office announced back in January that he was going to wed his longtime partner, Jim Ready. Ready and Frank have been together since 2007. Massachusetts is one of the few States in the union that recognizes gay marriage.
