Anne Hathaway Talks Sexism, ‘Les Miz’ Weight Loss, & Changing Catwoman Vegan Diet For ‘Interstellar’ [Video]
Anne Hathaway is realistic about how the entertainment industry tends to favor younger women. But Anne refuses to get upset that some might think she’s too older for certain roles, because Hathaway feels that she once benefited from the sexism, reported Glamour.
“When I was in my early twenties, parts would be written for women in their fifties and I would get them. And now I’m in my early thirties and I’m like, ‘Why did that 24 year old get that part?’ I was that 24 year old once, I can’t be upset about it, it’s the way things are,” theorized Anne, 32.
Hathaway also is complimentary when it comes to other young women. In particular, she has something of a girl crush on Taylor Swift, and the two even spent some time together.
“She just seems to be following her heart,” praised Anne. “We hung out one night. I was like, ‘You are a magnificent creature.’ She was on fire and I’ve watched her become this force of nature.”
When it comes to Hathaway’s career, she’s sought to become her own force of nature through challenging roles. And while it may seem that Anne’s success in challenging roles such as Les Miserables would result in improved odds for coveted parts, Hathaway feels that fewer such roles exist, reported E! News.
“The competition is just as fierce as ever,” added Anne.
Hathaway also has only praise for other actresses on her level.
“I look around at my peers and I’m so blown away by their talent and their beauty and their cool style, as well as their ability to be an actress and be a movie star and be good at it,” said the Academy Award winner.
For Anne, succeeding at a role has required a variety of diets, but she’s perhaps most famed for starving for that Les Miserable role, which caused her to lose 25 pounds, reported the Metro.
However, Hathaway emphasizes she does not recommend it, particularly the part where she lived on tiny portions of porridge.
“I didn’t think I would be able to keep going without collapsing. But I had to appear dead,” added Anne.
Hathaway then returned to her vegan diet after that intense starvation food plan. And she offered an interesting definition for how to decide whether to choose a role.
“If you are not willing to cut off your hair, lose weight and look an idiot singing, the role is not speaking to you enough,” theorized Anne.
Hathaway feels that Les Miserables completed her joy during months where she won praised for her role in The Dark Knight Rises and tied the knot with Adam Shulman.
As for that role in the Batman flick, Anne wanted to look hot in that Catwoman suit, so she got help with a carefully designed primarily vegan diet to achieve that goal, reported Fitness magazine.
Nutrition coach Jackie Keller developed a special plan with plenty of plant-based protein.
“We made sure she had adequate protein to get lean. For the Catwoman body, she needed to build more muscle and make sure she didn’t waste away under rigorous training,” said Keller. “She had about a cup of protein like legumes or pan-fried tofu at every meal.”
Anne then changed her diet again for Interstellar, a sci-fi movie with Matthew McConaughey, reported Too Fab.
Portraying an astronaut and donning a spacesuit that weighed 40 pounds, Hathaway decided to vary her vegan diet with fish, followed by other animal protein additions.
“I just didn’t feel good or healthy,” Anne said of her pure vegan diet.
Hathaway revealed that she’s stayed with expanding her plant-based diet to add more animal protein, as the Inquisitr reported. Anne has even eaten eggs and sausage following her diet change from Interstellar.
