Seattle Seahawks Trade Rumors: Team Acquires New Safety, Receives Offer For Kam Chancellor
Seattle Seahawks trade rumors have the team acquiring a new safety. These Seattle Seahawks trade rumors had begun with the need to replace Pro Bowl safety Kam Chancellor on defense and ended with the team making a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. A report from NFL.com indicates that the Seahawks traded a future fifth-round draft pick for Chiefs safety Kelcie McCray. He immediately gets placed on the 53-man roster in Seattle.
This is a move to add more depth in the secondary, with the six-foot, one-inch, 26-year-old McCray giving the Seahawks a bit of a safety net. No pun intended. He has played in 31 games during his short NFL career, spending time with the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Buccaneers, and Kansas City Chiefs after going undrafted out of Arkansas State. McCray gives the Seahawks a bit more size in the secondary, with the potential to see a lot of playing time.
This move would not have been necessary and there wouldn’t be so many Seattle Seahawks trade rumors floating around if Kam Chancellor would just report to the team. Chancellor’s holdout has just about reached six weeks in length, showing how committed he is to getting that pay raise. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the front office in Seattle decided to sign free agent running back Fred Jackson, rather than cave to the new demands from Chancellor’s agent. That discord has led to rumors of Chancellor getting dealt to the New York Giants or Philadelphia Eagles.
It’s still possible that Chancellor could report to the team within the next week, negating the necessity for the team to have made this deal. Giving up a fifth-round pick to add depth isn’t that big of a deal, but it is going to further frustrate Seahawks fans that are getting very perturbed by what Chancellor has done. Public sentiment has turned on him quite a bit, even though those same fans would likely still come around to support him if he shows up before the regular season begins.
The 2015 NFL schedule begins on September 13 for the Seahawks, as the team travels to play the division rival St. Louis Rams. Game time for that one is 10 a.m. PT in week 1, but there are a lot of questions the team still needs to answer before kickoff. It’s possible that the Kam Chancellor holdout may still not be settled by then, raising more Seattle Seahawks trade rumors as the team tries to figure out the next move. If Chancellor hasn’t reported yet, Kelcie McCray could see a lot of action on the field.
