Anne Hathaway Talks Ageism, Gushes Over Taylor Swift [Video]
Anne Hathaway, despite being only in her early 30s, recently revealed that she’s already experiencing ageism in Hollywood. In the October issue of Glamour UK, Hathaway explained that she’s okay with being passed over for roles and revealed her girl crush with Taylor Swift.
Confessing to Glamour that she “can’t complain” about the ageism she’s experiencing in Hollywood, Anne Hathaway explained that she also “benefited from it” in the early days of her career. Although now she’s “in [her] early 30s” and passed over for roles, when Hathaway was “in my early 20s, parts would be written for women in their 50s and I would get them.”

Anne continued that she understands the ageism in Hollywood, although there are times when “I’m like, ‘Why did that 24-year-old get that part?,'” Hathaway told Glamour UK.
For aging actors in Hollywood like Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe has some words of wisdom about ageism. The Gladiator actor made headlines with some controversial statements last January about ageism in Hollywood. According to Russell, it’s all about being comfortable in your own skin as you age.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Crowe believes actors cannot “pretend that you’re still the young buck when you’re my age,” elaborating that acting younger “just doesn’t work.” The actor advised aging stars like Hathaway.
“If you are willing to live in your own skin, you can work as an actor.”

Hathaway, who has never seemed uncomfortable in her skin, will star opposite Robert De Niro in The Intern, which premieres September 25. Anne plays Jules, an internet startup founder who hires a 70-year-old intern, who will be played by Robert De Niro.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Hathaway discussed her role inThe Intern, and despite ageism, explained she’s not yet ready to head out of the limelight. While Anne has produced, she explained she has gotten “to a place of enjoyment with where I’m at and it was hard fought, so I’d like to enjoy that.”
Hathaway continued, “[t]he director bug hasn’t caught me yet…Also, I think I’m intimidated. Most of the directors I admire have been directing since they were little kids.”
Even though she’s aging, Hathaway isn’t too old for a girl crush. In the October edition of Glamour UK, Anne Hathaway also took time to gush about Taylor Swift, calling her “a magnificent creature,” and explaining that she has “watched [Swift] become this force of nature.”
Anne recalled meeting Tay-Tay when “she and Jake [Gyllenhaal] were together.” Remembering that Swift was “20 at the time, and we hung out one night,” Hathaway was impressed that Taylor “just seems to be following her heart.”
