The Fifty Shades of Grey sequel is officially happening and new cast members will be joining the movie, titled Fifty Shades Darker. Could The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder be one of the newest cast members?
According to Movie News Guide , Ian Somerhalder, the actor best known for playing hunky vampire Damon Salvatore on the CW’s hit series The Vampire Diaries, could be cast as the new Fifty Shades of Grey villain in the sequel, Fifty Shades Darker .
Rumors are flying that Somerhalder may be in the running to play evil Jack Hyde, Anastasia Steele’s boss who sexually harasses her and happens to have shocking past ties to Christian Grey’s childhood.
According to the Fifty Shades of Grey Wikia , Jack and Christian knew each other when they were very young, and were actually in the same foster home together after Grey’s birth mother died.
“Jack Hyde is a former Commissioning Editor at Seattle Independent Publishing (SIP). He is 32 years old during the events of the series. As a child, Jack grew up in Detroit, MI. His father died in a bar fight and his mother was an alcoholism [sic], so he was placed into foster care. When Christian’s birth mother committed suicide, Christian was placed into the same foster home that Jack was in. Like Christian, Jack had a violent history as an adolescent, but was able to overcome adversity: he received a scholarship to Princeton University, graduated with a degree in English Literature, and had a successful career. However, Jack still harbored jealousy and resentment towards the Grey family for adopting Christian instead of him.”
The Franchise Herald reports that Ian Somerhalder would be a great fit for the role of Jack Hyde as he has already shown that he can play a dark and twisted character, who may have some emotions that make him easier to relate to, but always seems to make mistakes.
Many fans know that Ian wanted a role in the first Fifty Shades of Grey film, and many hoped that he would be cast as Christian Grey. However, after Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam was chosen for the part, and later dropped out, actor Jamie Dornan was given the lead role.
Another interesting choice for the role of Jack Hyde could be former Twilight star Robert Pattinson. A lot of fans were rooting for him to be cast as Christian Grey, and since Fifty Shades of Grey started as a Twilight fan fiction it could be fun to see him in the Fifty Shades Darker villain role.
What are your thoughts on the the possibility of Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder playing the role of Jack Hyde in the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel Fifty Shades Darker ?
