‘Sesame Street’ Spoofs Famous ‘When Harry Met Sally’ Deli Scene With ‘When Cookie Met Sally’ [Video]
Sesame Street has put their own twist on the 1989 romance comedy, When Harry Met Sally, by recreating the film’s deli scene with a hilarious spoof. As fans of the film will recall, the famous scene took place at Katz’s Delicatessen in Manhattan and featured Meg Ryan’s character, Sally, publicly faking an orgasm in front of the customers to prove a point to Billy Crystal’s Harry.
Aptly titled, When Cookie Met Sally, the Sesame Street spoof features Cookie Monster playing the PG version role of Billy Crystal with Sally looking like a mini Meg Ryan muppet, Time confirms.
Instead of arguing about a man’s ability to recognize when a woman is faking an orgasm, the Sesame Street spoof shows a crazy and impatient Cookie Monster who is annoyed that he has to wait in line. Throughout the scene, Muppet Meg, who rocks a perfect 80’s hairstyle and blue eye shadow, tries to deal with the out of control Cookie Monster, who rudely tries to cut everyone in line.

Clearly his polar opposite, Sally tries to explain that he must wait his turn. While talking, the two remember one another. Sally recollects a ride she gave Cookie Monster in her car. He made a big mess and he remembers her being very clean and neat. Sally then tries to keep Cookie Monster patient with some fun games like “I Spy” and “Patty Cake.” The only problem: Playing “Patty Cake” reminds Cookie Monster of baking and how much he wants cookies.
Sally coaxes him through the minor setback, as the two resemble Harry and Sally in the Nora Ephron classic. The two monsters finally get a plate of cookies. A customer then responds, “I’ll have what they’re having.” It’s a famous line that made it to number 33 on the “AFI’s 100 Years… 100 Movie Quotes” list of memorable movie lines and one that still conjures laughs.
Sesame Street‘s spoof of the famous deli scene — minus the orgasm — from When Harry Met Sally isn’t a first for the PBS Kids show. The puppet series has previously created parodies for thriller franchise The Hunger Games, AMC’s Mad Men, long-running hospital drama Grey’s Anatomy, as well as popular Old Spice commercials.
