It’s Fan Expo In Toronto, And J.K. Rowling, ‘Mr. Robot,’ And ‘X-Files’ Fans Are In For A Treat
Every year, the city of Toronto plays host to the much-anticipated Fan Exposition that takes place at the Toronto Convention Centre. The Expo welcomes comic book, gaming, anime, horror, sci-fi, and fantasy geeks alike. This year, however, J.K. Rowling fans should be particularly excited, since the Expo will welcome celebrity guests Rupert Grint and Tom Felton, as well as James and Oliver Phelps, from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter movies. Just a reminder, that’s Ron, Malfoy, and the Weasley twins, Fred and George.
As CBC News pointed out, J.K. Rowling has recently been tweeting updates about James, Harry Potter’s son, and how he will be beginning his journey at Hogwarts this year. Rowling followed up with more tweets to alert her fans that James had been sorted into Gryffindor.
Have just heard that James S Potter has been Sorted (to nobody’s surprise) into Gryffindor. Teddy Lupin (Head Boy, Hufflepuff) disappointed.

But J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter fans alike will surely have their dedication tested at Fan Expo. If anyone is looking for autographs or photos with their favourite stars, they will come at a pretty steep price. For instance, Tom Felton, who will be appearing on Friday and Saturday, has a rate of $60 for an autograph and $70 for a photo opportunity. James and Oliver Phelps, who will be available on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, will charge $90 for an autograph and the same price for a photograph together. Finally, Rupert Grint’s rate is a steep $125 for a photograph and another $125 for an autograph. He will be appearing on Saturday and Sunday at the Expo. Unfortunately, J.K. Rowling herself will not be present at this year’s Fan Expo as she is busy working on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Other celebrities appearing at the exhibit include Gillian Anderson from The X-Files. In an interview with the Toronto Sun, Gillian explains that this will be her first year attending Fan Expo. She is most well known for her role on The X-Files, however, her acting resume is in fact quite impressive.
She said to the Toronto Sun, “Every once in a while somebody comes up and says that Playing by Heart is their favourite film, or that they saw Bleak House, or Great Expectations. It’s always surprising to me that people actually have seen those things.”
Jason Momoa from Game of Thrones and Christian Slater from Mr. Robot will also make appearances at Fan Expo this year, so there is certainly a lot to look forward to. However, J.K. Rowling fans are definitely expected to be coming out of hiding this year in order to get a first-hand glance at their favorite HP characters.
Fan Expo starts today and will continue on until Sunday, September 6th. J.K. Rowling fans can also look forward to a special Hogwarts Reunion event taking place after the Expo ends on Sunday evening.
