WWE Rumors: Tag Team To Be Repackaged And Given New Gimmick
In recent months, it really looks like WWE is trying to breathe life back into their tag team division. This has been a part of the company that hasn’t really been exciting or meant much in years, but with the surge of The New Day and the return of the Dudley Boyz, it’s fun again. Now, rumor has it that one team is going to get a new gimmick as Los Matadores may soon be repackaged.
According to WrestleZone, there isn’t a lot known about it yet, but they simply are reporting that Los Matadores may soon get repackaged and a new gimmick.
Fernando and Diego have been in their current gimmick as wrestling bullfighters since September of 2013. They are a very talented tag team who have been mostly used as comic relief since donning the masks.
Before that, they were simply known as Epico and Primo, and they seemed a lot more relevant then. In that gimmick, they won the WWE Tag Team Titles from Air Boom back in January of 2012, and held onto them until the end of April that year.
They would hardly wrestle for a while and then went on a losing streak that lasted weeks. A few months later, they became Los Matadores and started being accompanied to the ring by El Torito, a mini-luchador dressed as a bull.
Throughout this year, Los Matadores have been involved in a number of big matches. At WrestleMania 31, they took part in a fatal four-way for the titles. In May, they were involved in the first ever WWE Tag Team Title match in an Elimination Chamber. Both times, they failed to win the titles.
The WWE tag team division has really grown a lot in recent months, and it currently has a number of teams that could legitimately battle for the titles. Unfortunately, Tyson Kidd was injured and had to break up the Brass Ring Club team where he was partnered with Cesaro.
Last year, it was almost hard to find even two full-time teams, but now there are plenty in place.
- The New Day – current tag team champs
- Dudley Boyz
- Prime Time Players
- The Ascension
- Los Matadores
- Lucha Dragons
- Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns
- The Wyatt Family (different members)
- The Usos (one back from injury)
It’s possible that Enzo Amore and Big Cass could be called up to the main roster soon as well. Looking at NXT, it’s really only a matter of time until The Vaudevillains are called up too.
Los Matadores have been more heavily involved in the tag team division this year, but they really need to be taken more seriously. Diego and Fernando are very talented wrestlers and repackaging them with a new gimmick could really elevate them.
