Maze Runner 2: Latest On ‘Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials’ With Cast Q&A
The cast of Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials answered questions about the upcoming second installment in the Maze Runner franchise on August 28 at the Beverly Hills Wilshire Hotel. The cast includes Dylan O’Brien (Thomas), Kaya Scodelario (Teresa), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Newt), Dexter Darden (Frypan), and Ki Hong Lee (Minho).
The cast responds to journalists’ questions about Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, such as, “Where was the weirdest place you found sand?”
“In Dylan’s hands,” Dexter Darden answers, jokingly referring to a Tumblr devoted to Dylan O’Brien’s hands.
“In the back of my knees,” Kaya Scodelario then responds, “Yeah, literally, and I was wearing jeans through the whole movie so I don’t know how the f**k that happened, but there was sand in the back of my knees.”
“Well, speaking of my hands,” Dylan O’Brien the Maze Runner lead explains, “and my weird thumbnail, you know since it’s a weird thumbnail often things stay in there for a while. I think I still have some dirt from this movie in there.”
“Why is your thumbnail weird?” a journalist asks.
“Ah, it’s weird because it got slammed in a trunk when I was nine and never grew back… I’ve always thought it looked like… Boba Fett.”

A journalist states that it seems as though the cast had more “practical” sets to work with and asks the Maze Runner cast if that helped “augment” their performances.
“I think Wes… (Maze Runner Director Wes Ball) does a great job of giving us things to actually react to,” Dexter Darden explains, “and so he really made it a point, to like, make real cranks and you know as much of the scenery, of course Albuquerque is just beautiful in general… We don’t see all the buildings behind, that’s mostly CGI. Other stuff… they’d bring in false rocks and all those kinds of things and so we had a lot of live things to actually react to… But even in the first Maze Runner, I mean… like the maze itself… was CGI, but the walls that opened, they were real”
