‘Fashion Police’ Honors Joan Rivers With New Segment, Kelly Osbourne Tweets Congrats To Melissa
Fashion Police made it’s return to E! on Monday and honored the late Joan Rivers with a new segment entitled “What Would Joan Say.” The premiere episode focused on fashion seen at the MTV Video Music Awards and included Melissa Rivers, Giuliana Rancic, and Brad Goreski on its panel. Melissa Rivers, daughter to Joan, admitted that she always asks herself, “What would my mom say about this?” in regard to the direction she has taken the show since her mother made it such a success.
Melissa lost her mother last September at the age of 81, and remains the co-producer for the program. During the first episode, Melissa made clear where the idea for the segment came from. Bang relays her words.
”There isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t see something and think, ‘What would my mom say about this?’ Let’s find out in our newest segment, ‘What Would Joan Say?”’
In short, the new Fashion Police segment’s goal is to predict what Joan would have said about a specific individual’s red carpet look. At a certain point in the episode, Melissa had to remind panelists of her late mother’s favorite terms, according to People.
“‘You guys are missing the fact that it’s a tribute to my mother, because those are many of her favorite words. She used those all the time,’ said Rivers of the outfits, which included words such ‘b**ch,’ ‘gold digger,’ and ‘stripper.'”
Fashion Police has been rebooted as it hasn’t graced television screens since March. People shares that the show began with Melissa Rivers “on her hands and knees, with a lint roller as she cleaned the set,” which was a means to depict the difficulties and controversies that the show has experienced over the past few months. The publication notes Rivers’ words after the odd opening actions.
“Hi, yeah, it’s been a little bit of a crazy year around here, and, well, I’m still cleaning up messes. But the good news is, Fashion Police is back.”
Prior to her death, Joan Rivers had hosted the E! show for five years. However, since the outspoken star passed away last fall, the show has experienced issues in regard to its panel members. People reminds that “Kathy Griffin took Joan’s seat, but exited the show in March following Rancic’s controversial on-air comments about singer/actress Zendaya’s dreadlocks. ” Kelly Osbourne is said to have exited her spot on the panel for the same reason back in February. However, Osbourne displayed support for Melissa and for the success of the show via Twitter, after the first episode aired on Monday.
@MelRivers congratulations on an awesome show tonight!
