Emmy Rossum and Sam Esmail are engaged after two years of dating.
According to a report by People Magazine , the first outlet to reveal the news, the Shameless star became engaged to the writer/director became engaged over the weekend in Los Angeles. Rossum, 28, and Esmail, 37, have been dating for the past two years, and she even starred in his film, Comet.
This will mark the second marriage for Rossum, who was previously married to music executive Justin Siegel from 2008 to 2010.
“I was so young, I don’t think I knew what marriage meant,” she told Cosmopolitan about her prior union in a 2014 interview. “My parents were never married, and I was teased in school and called a bastard. So the idea of marriage as safety forever was idealized in my head, and we rushed into it.”

“Everyone messes up in relationships and has peaks and valleys in their personal lives,” she added in an interview with InStyle Hair. “When I realized it wasn’t the end of the world and I would keep on standing, I knew it was going to be OK.”
Aside from their engagement, this past year has been quite busy for the couple, with many exciting things going on in their professional lives. Emmy is continuing her run as as Fiona on Showtime’s Shameless, while Esmail has been working hard as the creator of USA’s drama, Mr. Robot.

The Phantom Of The Opera actress revealed she was dating Esmail when they appeared together for the June, 2014, premiere of Esmail’s flick, Comet . Since then, the couple has been head over heels in love. In September, Rossum spoke highly of her then-boyfriend, explaining that he allowed her to have a female-centered celebration for her 28th birthday.
“We went to the opera and saw Traviata . And then we had a dinner party at my house. It was nine girls and my boyfriend,” Rossum said. “Poor thing, or lucky him.”
“He’s a bit of a nerd,” Rossum admitted during an interview on Live! With Kelly & Michael in October of last year, according to Us Weekly . “He doesn’t know chivalry too well, so we have to bust his chops a little bit and tell him every time a woman stood up and went to the restroom, he had to stand up.”
