Nicki Minaj Has A Real Beef With Miley Cyrus, VMA Shade Wasn’t Just An Act
Nicki Minaj really does have a beef with Miley Cyrus, and her on-air diss at the VMA’s on Sunday wasn’t just an act, Us Magazine is reporting.
In case you’re not clear on what happened, here’s how it went down: at MTV’s Video Music Awards on Sunday, which Miley Cyrus hosted, Nicki Minaj took the stage to accept the award for Best Hip Hop Video. After thanking her pastor, Minaj threw some epic shade at Cyrus.
“Now back to this b***h who had a lot to say about me the other day in the press. Miley, what’s good?”
You can see Nicki’s diss for yourself at :31 in this video (warning: video contains strong language).
So what was Nicki Minaj supposedly upset about? According to MSN, last Thursday, Miley told the New York Times that she believed Nicki overreacted when her video for “Anaconda” failed to be nominated for Video Of The Year, while Taylor Swift got a nomination for her video, “Bad Blood.” Minaj took to Twitter to complain about it, Taylor Swift took Nicki’s complaints as a personal insult, it became a big feud (at one point, Taylor accused Nicki of “trying to pit women against each other”). Then, just as quickly as it began, it was over: the two women made peace, and all was well — Nicki and Taylor even performed on-stage together at the VMAs.
But back to Miley: during her Times interview, somehow the subject of the Nicki Minaj-Taylor Swift feud came up. Here’s what she had to say about it.
“What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It’s not very polite. I think there’s a way you speak to people with openness and love. You don’t have to start this pop star against pop star war.”
Seems Nicki was still upset about those remarks on Sunday, and she let Miley know about it, live and on-the-air.
And in case you’re thinking the whole thing was an act — after all, Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus are both getting their names in the papers over the diss — an unidentified source tells Us Magazine that Nicki’s anger was, and is, real.
“Nicki was livid with Miley and decided to air her feelings onstage. The anger was very real and not a pre-planned bit at all.”
In fact, says the source, MTV showrunners had to keep the two women separate from one another throughout the show for fear of a full-on confrontation blowing up.
Hopefully, Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus will make up and be friends again, just like she and Taylor did.
