WWE News: Sting Confirmed For This Monday’s ‘RAW’ In Tampa

According to a report on WWE.com, wrestling legend Sting is set to appear on this Monday’s edition of WWE RAW. Not only will Sting be appearing on the show, but he will also be kicking off the broadcast at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Sting’s appearance on RAW will come just one week after he made his return to television last Monday night in Brooklyn. During the closing segment of last week’s show, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and WWE Champion Seth Rollins were in the ring getting ready to reveal a new statue of the WWE Champion. As Triple H had promised Rollins prior to SummerSlam, if Rollins were to defeat Cena and retain his championship, WWE would dedicate a statue to Seth that would be on display at WWE headquarters in Stamford, CT, alongside statues of other WWE legends, such as Bruno Sammartino, Andre The Giant, and The Ultimate Warrior.

Instead, the curtain went up on the podium in the ring, and Sting was behind the curtain rather than a Seth Rollins statue. Sting proceeded to clear the ring of Rollins, looking to be in good physical shape while doing so. The 56-year-old Sting has reportedly been intensely training for a match all summer, though the exact plan for when that match was scheduled to happen has changed over the last few weeks.

Reports in recent months had mentioned that Sting was originally scheduled to wrestle at this year’s SummerSlam, likely in a six-man tag team match. The original plan was to have Sting team up with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose to take on Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, and a new third member of the Wyatt family. Instead, the unveiling of a third member of the Wyatt family was held off until after SummerSlam, and Sting’s return was also pushed back to September’s Night Of Champions show. This was probably a good decision, as SummerSlam is a show that would drop a large audience regardless of a Sting appearance. Having the wrestling legend appear at Night Of Champions, though, could increase interest in what is usually considered a minor PPV show.

Following his appearance on RAW last week, it was announced in a segment airing exclusively on the WWE Network that Seth Rollins will be defending his WWE Championship against Sting at Night Of Champions.

WrestleMania 31 this past March in California is the last time that Sting has wrestled, and to this date, it is still the only time that Sting has wrestled in a WWE ring. In that match, Sting was defeated by Triple H.
