New Movies, TV Originals On HBO Now For September 2015: Will Ferrell, Clint Eastwood Highlight Month
The online streaming service HBO Now brings an impressive lineup of new, original programs — including a Will Ferrell baseball comedy special — and classic movies to its September, 2015, schedule. Among the cinematic highlights coming to the internet-only version of the hugely popular premium cable network, a midnight cult classic, an epic Clint Eastwood western, a science-fiction masterpiece, and the second-highest box-office moneymaker in Hollywood history.
That last one would be, of course, the 1997 Leonard DiCaprio and Kate Winslet blockbuster Titanic, director James Cameron’s stunning dramatization of the legendary 1912 sinking of the “unsinkable” ocean liner.
The 1975 camp classic Rocky Horror Picture Show had its glory days in the ’70s, packing midnight screenings with its ardent fans who showed up in costume and recited every line of dialogue along with the characters. Those days may be almost 40 years in the past, but HBO Now offers a new generation of fans the chance to stage a home version of the phenomenon. Don’t forget the rubber gloves, rice, and squirt guns.
A long-awaited but largely unnecessary sequel may be in the works, but science fiction fans will want to catch the original Ridley Scott 1982 classic, Blade Runner, with Harrison Ford as a futuristic cop who may or may not be a “replicant” — that is, an artificial human— when it hits HBO Now in September.
And younger viewers who may know Clint Eastwood only as the funny old guy who talks to an empty chair will definitely need to check out the brilliant Sergio Leone 1966 hit The Good, the Bad and The Ugly — arguably Eastwood’s greatest film, even after his unparalleled six-decade career.
All of those films, and numerous other classics listed below, debut on September 1.
On September 12, topping the list of HBO originals for the month, comedy superstar Will Ferrell plays for 10 actual, real Major League Baeseball teams in a single day in his new special Ferrell Takes the Field. For a sneak peek, see the video on this page.
