Miley Cyrus Addresses Taylor Swift-Nicki Minaj MTV VMA Feud
Miley Cyrus is now addressing the infamous Taylor Swift-Nicki Minaj feud that took place on Twitter last month. Miley recently revealed that she wasn’t happy with the way that Nicki handled her social media. According to her, the rapper made an important conversation about race about herself.
During her interview with the New York Times, Cyrus, 22, said that she wasn’t too familiarized with the Swift-Minaj feud because she believes the “Anaconda” rapper handled it the wrong way.
“I didn’t follow it. You know what I always say? Not that this is jealousy, but jealousy does the opposite of what you want to do – that’s a yoga mantra. People forget that the choices they make and how they treat people in life affect you in a really big way. If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement. But I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it.”
Although Miley admits that she wasn’t aware of their very brief Twitter feud, she said that she’s familiar with the way that Nicki acts. It sounds like Miley’s not a big fan of the rapper. The two appeared to be close in the past. Miley used to share countless photos of the rapper on her Instagram page and even dressed up as her for Halloween. But she didn’t have some kind words to say about the “Hey Mama” rapper during her interview.
“What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It’s not very polite. I know you can make it seem like, Oh I just don’t understand because I’m a white pop star. I know the statistics. I know what’s going on in the world. But to be honest, I don’t think MTV did that on purpose.”
Swift and Minaj’s feud began last month when the rapper wasn’t happy to hear that her “Anaconda” video didn’t get a nomination for Video of the Year. Minaj took to Twitter to explain that only slim women win these awards. Taylor Swift took Minaj’s comments as a personal attack and accused her of pitting women against women.
Taylor received backlash from the media, while Nicki received praise and brought up an important discussion about black women artists. The “Bad Blood” singer was then forced to apologize to Nicki. But it looks like Miley doesn’t think that Nicki was addressing race at all.
“If you want to make it about race, there’s a way you could do that. But don’t make it just about yourself. Say: ‘This is the reason why I think it’s important to be nominated. There’s girls everywhere with this body type.'”
Cyrus appears to be siding with Swift on this side of the feud. During her interview with Marie Claire magazine, Cyrus slammed Swift’s “Bad Blood” video for receiving praise, while she receives criticism for posing in the buff. Cyrus went on to say that society loves guns but hates “t***ies.”
