John Boyega Photo: Finn With Lightsaber Debuts On Instagram
A photo of John Boyega, Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has made its debut on Instagram thanks to the film’s main account.
We have seen John Boyega in several photos and in scenes from the first trailer released at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California, earlier this year. He plays Finn, a renegade Stormtrooper being chased by Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), but we know very little about the new character.
Director J.J. Abrams spoke about John Boyega’s Finn recently, indicating he may be related to one of the characters in the original Star Wars Trilogy. Because of his ethnicity, the logical supposition would be Finn is Lando Calrissian’s (Billy Dee Williams) offspring; however, despite the logic, this is just speculation at this time.

We do know — because he told us so at the Celebration — that John Boyega’s character is a renegade and is being pursued by the evil Captain Phasma. We don’t know why he left the Stormtrooper’s ranks, but apparently he ends up with Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), and another of the newcomers, Rey (Daisy Ridley), who doesn’t have a known last name either and is believed to possibly be Solo and Princess Leia’s (Carrie Fisher) daughter. Again, these are just speculations.
In this new John Boyega photo we see the Stormtrooper without the uniform we’re used to seeing him in and wielding a blue lightsaber. Let’s speculate some more about the new photo.
Finn is in a forest and it’s snowing. Do you remember which character was seen in this place on the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer? Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

We can conclude, from the new John Boyega photo, that Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma are working together to catch Finn and bring him to face the consequences of his desertion. They could also be in cahoots with another villain, General Hux, played by Domhnall Gleeson, one of the leaders of the First Order, the military organization formed in the wake of the Empire’s demise.
Abrams said fans will have to wait to figure out the origin of Finn and Rey until Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18 in a special piece on Entertainment Weekly. One thing is for certain: followers of the saga have welcomed the newcomers, which also include Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), with open arms and the stars seem to be more than excited to be a part of that galaxy far, far away.
What do you think about the new John Boyega photo?
