‘Outlander’ Season 2 Ready To Cast Brianna And Roger, Announcement Teases Major Time Jump
As Outlander continues production of Season 2, producers are finally ready to cast two fan favorites in Brianna and Roger Wakefield. According to TV Line, Outlander has sent out an official casting call for Brianna, and the description for the character teases a new twist.
Most of description matches up with the character in the book, who is introduced in Dragonfly in Amber. The description characterizes Brianna as “strong-minded, intelligent beyond her years with an effortless charm and sparkling sense of humor.”
Although this all matches up with the events in the book, which includes a major time jump in order to introduce Brianna to her parents, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan), the casting call includes a little bit of a divergence from the book. In the description, Brianna is said to have followed Claire back in time in order to meet the rest of her family, which is different than what happens early on in Book 2.
In the books, Claire goes back to her own time in order to have her child, who is then raised by Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies). Randall makes a deal with Claire that Brianna isn’t to know about her real father until he is long gone.
While Brianna following Claire back in time does happen in the book, it doesn’t occur until the fourth one. This means producers might have bigger plans for the character early on, though they would be skipping a lot of the storyline in between.
Meanwhile, Sony Pictures Television officially acknowledged the casting call in a recent statement. “Fans of the books will know that [Brianna] first appears in the second book, Dragonfly in Amber, which corresponds to the season we are currently filming, but continues on to have several major storylines as noted in the casting search.”
The only question remaining centers on who will be cast to play the pivotal characters. Unfortunately, with the casting process still in its infancy, there is really no telling who they pick to play the roles of Brianna and Roger.
That being said, according to Realty Today, filming for the first five episodes of Season 2 has already concluded. With a good portion of the production over and done, it shouldn’t be very long before we know who has been cast for the roles.
Season 2 of Outlander is expected to premiere sometime in the spring of 2016.
