Florida Parents Under Investigation After 5-Month-Old Baby Suffers Fractured Skull, Broken Leg And Arm – And Dies 4 Days Later
The parents of 5-month-old Christian Bent of Boynton Beach, Florida are under investigation after he was transported to Bethesda Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to WPTV. On August 11, a report stated that while Christian in the care of his father, Dwayne Bent, the infant fell from the countertop.
Sources say that Christian was in a bouncer chair when he fell – hitting his head – and his parents refused to take him to the hospital for a check-up, claiming “he seemed okay,” and later put him down for a nap. Just before 7 a.m. on August 14, Christian’s mother Pamela Siscoe dropped him off at the babysitter’s house.
After leaving, the babysitter – whose name has not been released – called Siscoe and informed her that Christian had a nose bleed, but it was disregarded as Siscoe told her that it was probably from the fall he had taken earlier that week. At around 3 p.m., another phone call was made about Christian becoming unresponsive after he had an explosive bowel movement. The babysitter said she performed CPR, and he started breathing again.
According to Sun Sentinel, neither party called 911 after Christian was showing signs of serious health issues. In fact, before picking up their son from the babysitter’s house after learning of his nose bleed and unresponsiveness, they went to their landlord to pay the rent.
On August 18, Christian was taken to Bethesda Hospital, but he had to be transported to Delray Medical Center where he later died after being on life support. The Department of Children and Families said that Christian’s injuries included a “fractured skull, broken arm and broken leg.”
Investigators believe Christian died as a result of shaken baby syndrome and are now investigating his parents for child abuse. However, the family attorney, Paul Herman, said that the claims are “inaccurate, incorrect and a mistake.” He believes the child was abused at the babysitter’s house.
“Children get bumps and bruises in the normal course of being children. The horrific, fatal beating of that Friday afternoon had nothing whatever to do with falling out of the bouncy seat from days before,” said Herman.
“There is no rational connection between that very teeny, minor episode and the death of Christian at the hands of the child care provider midday on Friday. I believe the medical examiner will connect the dots and be able to say the approximate time of the fatal injuries was when the mother and father were at their job sites.”
As a result of the claims, the Department of Children and Families have placed the couple’s 2-year-old daughter in foster care.
A court hearing on the case will be held next month.
