WWE Rumors, Spoilers: Huge WWE Title Match Announced For ‘Night of Champions’ – Rumors Of Other Matches
For the first time in the history of his storied and iconic career, Sting is going to challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Title. Immediately following Monday Night Raw, it was announced on the WWE Network that Sting would challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE Title at Night of Champions in September.
As confirmed by WrestleZone, it was clearly announced that Sting would get his first, and possibly only ever, chance to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Seth Rollins will be putting the title on the line in a match that many never thought they would see happen.
In no time after it was announced, WWE updated their website and put up the match preview, as well. Night of Champions will take place on Sept. 20, and it’ll be a historic night in the world of professional wrestling.
A six-time WCW World Champion, Sting has never before challenged for a title in WWE, let alone the WWE World Heavyweight Title, but he has been a recurring threat to The Authority. Starting with his WWE debut at last year’s Survivor Series — during which he helped oust Triple H & Stephanie from power, albeit briefly—and culminating with his ruining of Rollins’ celebration, Sting has repeatedly made his presence felt.
At the end of Monday Night Raw, Sting was standing in a box that had been draped in a black cloak. It was supposed to hold a bronze statue of Seth Rollins that The Authority was presenting to him. As the drape was raised, Sting stood there and shocked the world.
He attacked Rollins and held up the WWE Title as the champion scurried up the ramp with Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. The United States Title was not set to be on the line, and there was no word on what will happen to it with Rollins holding it as well.
A number of other matches are rumored for Night of Champions, and they are the subject of discussion due to other events that unfolded on Monday Night Raw.
For one, the Dudley Boyz surprisingly returned to WWE and it looks like they are back for one more big run. They attacked the new WWE Tag Team Champions, The New Day, and that could set up the match at Night of Champions. It’s possible the Prime Time Players could also be added and make it a triple threat.
Not all matches on the card have to be for titles, and there are a number of other rumored bouts that could happen.
- Divas Title: Nikki Bella (c) vs. Charlotte or Becky Lynch
- Dolph Ziggler & Lana vs. Rusev & Summer Rae
- Intercontinental Title: Ryback (c) vs. The Miz
Many rumors are flying about WWE Night of Champions, but only one match is confirmed so far and it’s Sting vs. Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Title. It looks like WWE is already planning on stacking the card, and it’s only going to grow.
