George R. R. Martin Reveals ‘Game Of Thrones’ Will Finish On TV First And More

Game of Thrones will finish on the small screen before George R.R. Martin can finish the last book of the series. That is just one of the revelations the author of the book series has shared recently. He is still working on the sixth book in the Games of Thrones series, and he shared a chapter from The Winds of Winter with his fans at a Thursday event.

According to Geek Wire, Martin spoke about the writing of the books and their connection to the television series. The HBO series has already deviated from Martin’s creations, but the end will be the same. Martin has revealed his vision for the end of the series with David Benioff and Dan Weiss. The men will take fans on an “alternate route” to reach that ending.

Martin spoke about the journey with the fans at the Sasquan Science-fiction Convention in Spokane, Washington on Thursday.

“The show is moving forward like a locomotive, or sometimes a jet locomotive. They’re writing 60-page scripts, I’m writing 1,500-page novels. So who the hell knows? There was a period where I was worried about that. Then I said, to hell with that. Worrying about it isn’t going to change it one way or another. I still sit down at the typewriter, and I have to write the next scene and the next sentence … I’m just going to tell my story, and they’re telling their story and adapting my books, and we shall see.”

Fans do want to know if The Winds of Winter will be released in time for Games of Thrones Season 6. Martin is asked that question a lot by fans, and he is admittedly tired of it. At the Thursday event, he joked about the question by saying that he would “ask [his] minions to lop your head off” if someone asked that question.

However, he has revealed in a previous interview that he wants to get The Winds Of Winter released as soon as possible, according to Ecumenical News.

“I wish it was out now. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I’m down a lot more interviews – anything I can do to get this done.”

Martin has not locked himself completely away from the world. In addition to the Thursday appearance, he also took a break to attend a session of the New York Jets training camp. During that visit, he revealed that, “I scripted one episode every season. So the last two seasons, I have not done that, simply because I am too busy with the book.”

George R. R. Martin has no problem teasing his fans about the book series. He has even teased fans about the end of the story. Fans are worried that it will be a bad ending to the story. Martin has tried to ease their worries in a recent interview, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“I’ve said before that the tone of the ending that I’m going for is bittersweet. I mean, it’s no secret that [author J.R.R.] Tolkien has been a huge influence on me, and I love the way he ended ‘Lord of the Rings.’ It ends with victory, but it’s a bittersweet victory. Frodo is never whole again, and he goes away to the Undying Lands, and the other people live their lives. And the scouring of the Shire — brilliant piece of work, which I didn’t understand when I was 13 years old: ‘Why is this here? The story’s over?’ But every time I read it, I understand the brilliance of that segment more and more. All I can say is that’s the kind of tone I will be aiming for. Whether I achieve it or not, that will be up to people like you and my readers to judge.”

The cast of Game of Thrones is currently filming Season 6 of the series, and there have been reports from the set. Belfast Live shared photos of Maisie Williams filming a scene in Northern Ireland on Monday.

The 18-year-old actress was seen taking a dip in freezing water for the scene, and a scuba diver was close by. Williams stars on the series as Arya Stark, and fans have wondered if her character is now blind because of events that happened at the end of Season 5. However, the set photos give no clues about Arya’s condition.

Williams has been busy with work outside of Games of Thrones as well. Just earlier this week, Us Weekly shared her comments about her new film project, The Falling. For the movie, she had to film a scene where her character loses her virginity. It was her first ever sex scene, and it was “awkward.” However, she worked with someone who tried to make it easier for her.

“Joe [Cole] was very sensitive to the fact that I had never done a scene like this before, and it was great to work with someone who was so considerate of that. We went out for a couple of lunches and stuff just to get to know each other, and we had days of rehearsal where we’d get to know our characters and spend a couple of hours with each other. So I knew him quite well, and we got along quite well. It all paid off in the end.”

What do you think? Are you ready for the end of Game of Thrones? Are you more excited to read the ending or to watch it on HBO?
